I'm seeing this poster making the rounds and it's being identified as an unused Star Trek V poster by Drew Struzan. I disagree. It's a little cropped, but the bottom right shows Drew's signature and you can make out "91" which would mean this is an unused Star Trek VI concept. More in alt text.

Unused Star Trek VI poster by Drew Struzan. Lower right has his signature and what looks like a "91." He dated his "Hook" concept posters the same way, and that was also a December 1991 release. Star Trek VI also has an exploding planet, which Star Trek V does not have.

Star Trek VI was the first Trek feature film not to have a one-sheet illustrated by Bob Peak. The final was by John Alvin. It makes sense then that Paramount was searching for alternatives.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

My favorite Struzan story is that he was doing the poster for Indy at Disneyland, but they didn't have the rights to Ford's likeness. Fed up with working around the problem, Struzan just called Ford and was like, "hey, can I use your face for this," and Ford said, "if it's for you, absolutely."

It’s safe to say that I was a huge fan of his work… and to have Struzan and Carpenter resharing photos of my dumb Halloween costume was truly one of the highlights of my life.
