A small crowd of young people gathered in central St. Petersburg, Russia, to sing anti-war and anti-Kremlin songs, led by 18-year-old performer Diana Loginova.

Then she was arrested.

A music student sang protest songs in St. Petersburg. Then she was arrested.

The rare act of protest comes as Russia has cracked down on the arts, forcing out those who disagree with its war on Ukraine and quashing any acts of dissent.

I used to feel uncomfortable with silence in the classroom, but I strangely enjoy them when I ask students to be creative because they suggest real concentration. Today this happened when they made blackout poetry from Mona Caird’s Morality of Marriage. This is a fab exercise for close reading.

Libraries in Reform UK run Staffordshire are being forced to close.

They are refusing to hire much needed staff and refusing over time or paying for staff to be covered. This is resulting in libraries closing because of too few staff, despite there being available staff to cover.

So more likely to rely upon our NHS and more in favour of sending 20% of NHS staff away from our country. Also more in favour of an insurance based model they could least afford to pay. But hey, Nigel’s alright he’s a millionaire with health insurance!
