I know I'm late, ah well

Cold Morning

Will died in 2017. However he was cryogenically frozen and revived 200 years later.

He's just received a stack of letters from his widower. So he's writing back

(PS I love you but scifi and queer)

We would like to invite you to set your favorite time-traveling device to October 21st, 2025, for the pitch event dedicated to Science Fiction, #SFPit! 🧵
Yeah I think it's kinda short for 'farm labourer' in the US? Or is sometimes used that way

I'm remembering discourse about some kids' show or other where a non-US creator said a Black character 'looked like a farmer' and this apparently had slavery connotations

Or something along those lines

Not to puff up my craft too much here, but I feel like not only the labor of the editor but the process of editorial itself are among the most underrated things in the writing world.

It used to be said "writing is rewriting." An editorial process is often as important as the drafting!
This is exactly the kind of thing a good editor will catch. Bring back editors. Give them human workloads so they can do what they do best—leave comments that poke holes in writers' nonsensical lines that they put in because they sound good, not because they make sense.
weird reading gripe: I'm noticing an uptick in similes and metaphors that don't quite work. it'll be like "bitter as seawater" or "in constant motion, like a cockroach." like, I get the vibe the author is going for but on a mechanical level it doesn't make any sense.

Lubna needs your support. Donations have dropped off with news of the ceasefire, but the IOF is still choking off aid and making everything impossible, prices are still sky high, but now support is nowhere to be found. Please support Lubna! www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-es...

If anyone has any info on this 👇from the home office, government or police sources - please share them with us.

We have been distracted with urgent legal paperwork, very topical too - it’s re a Chief Constable and his policy to prevent his officers..

I do some of the largest scale mutual aid work on the planet. You absolutely cannot mutual aid your way out of state capacity.

You can reduce some of the short-term harm via mutual aid. But that's a stop-gap measure, and here's why.🧵
ppl are bringing up food banks and yea absolutely you should give generously to food banks and panhandlers but like you cant mutual aid state capacity. If every food bank in the us got their annual revenue already, saved 100% of it, and no overhead besides food they might be able to provide 2 months
40 odd million people use SNAP. 7 million WIC. food banks are already way down because of funding cuts. It’s going to be catastrophic

Now would be a great time to start a weekly dinner party. You can feed 20 people a healthy home-cooked meal for less than $100.

Invite all your friends on SNAP, but also some folks who aren't. And have a good time with it!
We're agreed on that. I'm not quite sure what your argument is

I do follow this stuff, although from the looks of it that specific incident happened during a time when I was very unwell and missed a lot of news.

But I didn't say that the police *do* take inciting violence against trans people seriously. I said they *should*.

Curious how the Graham Linehan story is being spun, including by the BBC. He was arrested on suspicion of the criminal offence of inciting violence; but the BBC is now conflating his incitement with a "non-crime hate incident".
In Linehan's case it's not about the individual expression of hate. He encouraged a crowd of followers to do transmisogynistic violence. That *should* be taken seriously.
If a trans person with a big following on here encouraged their followers to do violence to Labour MPs, and that post got a lot of attention, I'm pretty sure the police would treat it as incitement of violence.

There's a reason people use euphemisms on here instead of saying that kind of thing.
