This is why in person multilayer games are superior to online multilayer. Like if you said shit about another player you'd get hit. Hard.

And then you'd learn not to say that shit again real fast.

Everybody wants to skip to the end of the movement where society retroactively agrees that it all worth it and everyone secretly supported it all along without actually spending any time in the trenches.

I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

this administration is held up and together by negative polarization, but they're also basically running a natural experiment in trying to break negative polarization so we get to find out just exactly how far it'll carry them ig

I really can't get over how its held together by negative polarization and nothing else, and if that starts to go they're in freefall

the extent to which media elites treat liberal americans as if they do not count in the body politic is a real problem

When this regime is over and buried, I don't want to hear about oh it's not worth the money or it's too petty to worry about. The order to bulldoze this illegal and unconstitutional monstrosity should be signed on Day 1.

White House budget director Vought SAYS HE WANTS TO shut down the CFPB within months, EVEN THO HE HAS NO AUTHORITY TO SHUT DOWN A CONGRESSIONALLY-CREATED AGENCY, saying, LIKELY WITH ZERO EVIDENCE, it’s no longer protecting customers.

How are we STILL doing such terrible headlines 10 months in.

What do I know and I'm not saying it's a magic bullet or anything like that but it sure seems to me that Dems should run hard on the Argentina bailout. Not anywhere near the worst thing Trump has done, but i suspect it's unusually clarifying.

Jeffries: "It's perplexing to us that Rs refuse to spend a dime to protect the healthcare of the American people, but somehow the Trump admin found $40b to bail out a right-wing wannabe dictator in Argentina in ways that are also going to continue to hurt our soybean farmers in Iowa & the Midwest"

Sorry I’m gonna go back on my bullshit here: National Consersvatism’s entire ethos boils down to “this problem, that we created, exacerbated, and oppose any effort to combat, is very bad. We will solve it by making it worse”

I suspect populist parties bootstrapped their own political support by weaponizing the residual, ambient distrust present in all societies & MAKING MORE OF IT, spreading & intensifying it, by propagating narratives of distrust & corruption. By repetition & uptake by other political actors, it rose.

any non-swing-district Democrat who supports "investing in rural communities" should be expelled from the party
sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com
by my count there are four vague proposals offered: national service, investing in rural communities, reform the supreme court, repeal citizens' united via constitutional amendment

one of these is profoundly important. the other three are memes.

cancel culture was a desperate rearguard action in defense of shared norms whose obsolescence was revealed via the backlash to cancel culture.
aelkus.bsky.social
in hindsight it makes sense to see cancel culture as a harbinger of the end of shame rather than an excess of it. "shame" presupposes stable social norms and a sense of what one did wrong and how it could have been avoided. not suddenly a thunderbolt from zeus thrown at random people

Another good way to think of this moment is that the American secret police are increasingly comfortable black bagging American citizens on camera and in broad daylight with no basis of detention. The mere act of criticism, no matter how petty and silly, is its own justification for brutality.

The fact that it was the leathery undulations of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., specifically, that Olivia Nuzzi submitted herself to *is* relevant.

He is straightforwardly a eugenicist! Probably the most powerful eugenicist in American history! Sleeping with a eugenicist makes me question your judgment!
