In any discussion of food and farming, unless your solution can be scaled to feed 8 billion people, you shouldn't be taken seriously. Unfortunately, cottagecore fantasies that would feed only the richest consumers, leaving billions to starve, are all too common.

Sure, the ferry cancellation was a disaster for NZ financially and the reduction in scope of the project will cause irreparable damage to our infrastructure but the new contract will enrich China so on balance it's a net positive, gotta give Willis the W on this one.

FINDS THEM AND KILLS THEM

"Finds Them and Kills Them (Osh-Tisch) looked like a man, but wore women's clothing and had the heart of a woman.... she was brave and good."
― Pretty Shield

Her strength as a warrior is what earned her the name Osh-Tisch, which translates to “finds them and kills them."
Who is Osh-Tisch?
Osh-Tisch was a Apsáalooke Badé, a role within the Crow Nation that defied traditional gender norms, embodying both masculine and feminine qualities. Before colonization, Badé were deeply respected for their unique spiritual gifts, artistry, and contributions to community life.
As a Badé, Osh-Tisch carried responsibilities tied to culture, ceremony, and social balance. Their life shows how many of our nations embraced gender diversity long before Western colonial powers imposed rigid binaries.

Next time an institution tells you how seriously it takes research misconduct, ask them if it's *this* seriously. www.bmj.com/content/297/...
In 1916 the BMJ published an article about the work done by James Shearer, an American physician working in the British Army as a sergeant (because he had no British qualification). He had described a
"delineator" which was better than x rays for portraying gunshot wounds. This caused a sensation and a lot of interest — but on investigation the work was found to have been invented. The BMJ published a retraction, but Shearer was tried by court martial and sentenced to death by firing squad.

the government is reforming the legislation that TPM was born from, reverting it to a position closer to the foreshore and seabed act than the marine and coastal area act finlayson intended. this is the most significant reform to māori rights in a generation, yet:

Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions:

Style
Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data.

Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.)

Please donate to them whenever you can. Even a little bit helps.

People who act confused by Hamas' desire to free Barghoti are bizarre to me, Hamas wants him out even though he isn't Hamas affiliated because they believe he is one of the few, or maybe even the only, individuals who can unite the whole of Palestinian factions under the PLO

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...
A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy
The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

Oh, well everyone speaks English pretty much. Chinese of my generation will mostly have studied Mandarin in school to some degree, but main ancestral dialects are Hokkien, Teocheow, Hakka, Cantonese. My mum's family was the only Yunnanese family on the island when they arrived in the 50s.
