I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering
Guillotine yes, hanging no

Sorry, but “hanging [is] really the most actually humane method of execution” is just straight-up factually untrue. Hanging is such an infamously-bad way to die that a large part of the history of capital punishment is “find execution methods that suck even slightly less than hanging”
Firing squads, hanging, and the guillotine really the most actually humane methods of execution. This is a solved problem. Every other method is an attempt by us, as a society, to either cover up the murder we're doing or increase suffering. Neither one is a good reason.
Hard to wrap my head around the sadism required to not to even grant somebody the mercy of a bullet to the head.

Beware anyone who won't stop relitigating the 2016 election
I just do not understand going to the mattresses for a Senate candidate who has more Nazi tattoos than electoral victories, an entire year before the election

CHOTINER: So you asked for a Birkin bag?
KOKO: Yes. Possession Bag.
CHOTINER: And you had the funds to acquire this?
KOKO: No, Professor Purchase Koko Gorilla
CHOTINER: That doesn't sound like the funds were justifiable.

892 mb and 185 mph. Very few places in the world in modern history have ever experienced what Jamaica is experiencing right now. Hurricanes of this magnitude directly hitting a major land mass are exceptionally rare.
A 10am EDT update from the National Hurricane Center now puts Melissa's sustained winds at 185 mph. Full text: www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh...?
A cursory glance at the reading level required for her work would indicate it was children’s literature

Always thought it was sad that Ayn Rand—one of the most successful authors of children's fantasy books of all time—had little enough saved in the bank in her old age that she had to rely on public assistance until her death, but I'm glad it was there for her.

If I could Being John Malkovich my way into Trump’s brain for an hour, I’d announce that shit sandwiches are America’s new national dish, just so we could all watch toadies like Ken Paxton loyally scarf down poop hoagies on the Fox and Friends couch.

From now on, when anyone asks how we’re going to pay for it, the answer should be we’ll take it out of the teargas budget.

I adore when the 7'4" man hunches down a little bit to hide behind his much-shorter teammate in order to surprise a would-be newcomer to the Block Party.

It used to be White House press seemed weirdly tolerant toward Trump's fantasy world rantings because they were terrified of looking biased against him, but now they are obviously biased because they work for propaganda outlets that were formed specifically to promote his fantasies.

Mamdani did this without tacking to the center by accepting republican framing and throwing marginalized people under the bus or even apologizing for being socialist; something that party operatives who actually want to win might learn from.
Across the city, more than 164,000 New Yorkers flocked to the polls this weekend for the first two days of early voting, according to the Board of Election, a staggering turnout that nearly matches the entire early voting count in 2021.

Turnout was massive across all five boroughs, with voters telling THE CITY that they were motivated to vote for — and against — the Democratic nominee.

for one thing she appears to be trying to (badly) imitate a posh British person while John Oliver is the most middle-class (British sense) man who even lived. he has a pleasant light midlands accent.

All the replies about how the corporations that govern media don’t want you to know blah blah blah are chasing a conspiracy when the truth is way scarier: the news media are STRUCTURALLY incapable of communicating how serious things are.
1. Last week, there were 3 Trump corruption scandals in 4 days that would define any other presidency.

Most people are probably not even AWARE of all three scandals.
