"But if there are many of these ruffians," said Merry, "it will certainly mean fighting. You won’t rescue Lotho, or the Shire, just by being shocked and sad, my dear Frodo."
Twelve Ruffians finished for my Battle of Bywater collection.

I beg all the techbros to leave Tolkien shit alone. Ol’ JRR was a lover of pastoral, an avowed anti-industrialist, and staunch traditionalist, a person who would have likened all the broligarchs to Saruman, Sauron, and Morgoth.
A US tech bro corp in the US has decided the night sky should go away. They've made that decision for everyone on Earth.

Naturally they've named the first searing orbital array (many times brighter than the moon) after Eärendil, the light bearer, from Tolkien's work

Company's plan to launch 4,000 space mirrors alarms scientists
Reflect Orbital says their light-on-demand idea has generated significant interest from commercial and government customers.

This is a not for users, it’s a tool for OpenAI to train its models further, by having them watch everything, read everything, and track everything you do through the browser.

It’s like inviting a superspy into your own house. Why the heck would you do that???
ChatGPT’s new Atlas browser doesn’t just see what you read — it remembers it.

@eff.org’s Lena Cohen showed me it even logged “memories” of her looking for *abortion care* and her doctor’s name. Out-surveils even Chrome.

My @washingtonpost.com column: wapo.st/49bOcVC
Column | ChatGPT just came out with its own web browser. Use it with caution.
OpenAI’s Atlas promises AI-powered convenience. The price? Letting ChatGPT track and store “memories” of what you do online.

I know it's small in the grand scheme of *waves hands* everything, but dear gods I wish people would push back on why he keeps claiming "they" have wanted a garish ballroom at the White House for years but somehow, no previous administration could manage to build one.
Trump the White House's East Wing: “It was never thought of as being much. It was a very small building, and rather than allowing that to hurt, a very expensive, beautiful building that frankly they've been after for years…In order to do it properly, we had to take down the existing structure.”

Great to see Wargamer covering last months Warhammer Conference!

I’m proud of my talk about the role of gothic horror in 40Ks past, but the depth of research & thought in the other seminars just blows mine away. They’re all so much worth checking out!

You can watch the entire 2025 Warhammer conference online now, and it's threatening to devour my weekend
There aren't enough free hours in the day to watch every presentation from the second academic conference on Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar.

Got another 80 last week and managed to get everyone a vault again. Had 12 with double 694 vaults, which was HARD. But anyways, here's how it broke down:

Gold on 15. Tier slots on 4. Non-tier slots on 5.

All the non-tier slots turned out to be rings, which was weird #warcraft
media that blew me away and stuck with me:

film - He-Man & She-Ra: The Secret of The Sword
game - WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness
book - The Encounter by Katherine A. Applegate

These three things have had a huge hold on me for close to 30 years now. Love them all deeply.
And that's like the LEAST controversial things happening THIS WEEK alone.
So for whatever reason, Blizzard has decided that LFR will not count for the Season 3 dinars. This is a terrible change. Punishing LFR gearing is unbelievably stupid. Forcing people to do higher raids is unbelievably stupid. How can the devs be so damn delusional? #warcraft

Hastening to add that yea, of course, we have our issues as a community. Racism, classism, etc. There is much to criticize, just as there is with the LGBTQIA+ community generally. But that's not why they're stirring up hate against us.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

why the hell are they confirming trump's judges when trump's speaker of the house won't swear in Grijalva?
By a vote of 66-32, the #Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Harold D. Mooty III to be US District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.
This is goddamn fucking insane.
ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.
