The Death Korps 5th Assault Battalion takes to the field! Shown here are six platoons, two tank companies, and one artillery company - about 500 infantry and 30 vehicles. 60% of the way to a full infantry company! Pics in the 🧵...

A close up of the armoured spearhead. There are Demolishers, Rogal Dorns, Leman Russes, and Malcadors A shot from behind the trenches, showing the advancing waves The infantry pouring forwards in their hundreds. A Thunderbolt fighter streaks past in the background. The advance takes place under the watchful eye of Captain Stagler, who monitors progress from the roof of his bunker.

Thanks! Yes it was an early conversion I did by hacking apart the Vostroyan standard bearer to get at that lovely sculpted flag for my Cadians.

It's a great model isn't it. Such a cool special character too, I remember he had really good rules in 3rd Edition.

Cheers mate! One day I want to collect all the Palladian Guard's stories into a single book, I've been working on them for so long.

These are some of the classic Heroes of Palladia, my custom regiment I started about 15 years ago. This mix of metal models represents some of the most famous officers and characters from the Palladian Guard - glad to get some paint on the Consul, who's been sat around for years in metal.
Consul Severus, ruler of Palladia during the recent civil war. He is a man standing in ornate white lacquered armour, patterned and with gold embellishments. He is striding forward with a staff in one hand and a hammer in the other, as well as a laurel wreath on his brow. Captain Nero, one of the most famous officers of the 9th Legion. He is a slightly chubby officer in green flak armour, pointing over one shoulder with his thumb and holding a shotgun in the other arm. He is wearing a helmet with a red crest, signifying a Palladian officer. Veteran Sergeant Hastus, wearing green flak armour and a heavy naval revolver, while ordering his troops forward with a wave of his hand. Veteran Sirus, standard bearer of the famous 33rd Company, 5th Legion, also known as the Dawn Guard. Sirus is wearing green flak armour, carrying a laspistol, and holding a huge red flag with yellow edging which is billowing behind him.

You can do what I do with my Imperial Guard - grimly play on, enduring defeat after defeat, stubbornly playing in an "in character" way and disregarding all the meta choices and tactics. It makes my infrequent victories particularly satisfying!
A determined squad of Imperial Guard grimly holding an objective inside a ruined building. Gazgkhull Thrakka is bursting through the wall to rip them all into sad little pieces.

All aboard the siege train! Off the back of my recent steam train obsession I've picked up this 3D printed train. I've got lots of ideas for it - an artillery wagon, an armoured train, special Kill Team scenarios where you have to climb along its side while it's moving...
A resin model of a Warhammer 40,000 style train. There's a squad engine on the right, that looks a bit like a tank engine shunter. A long flatbed truck is being towed behind it. A close up of the engine. It's covered in detail, and is very high quality. It runs on eight small, close set wheels. The front has a blunt nosed appearance, and there is a twin funnel on the top. A detailed shot of the flatbed truck. It has handrails on either end.

Wow, really nice contrast work! I always love seeing your terrain, I think the thing I like most is the clever use of bold spot colours to make them pop (eg. on doors)
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
I must admit I read it once and sniggered, then read it again in a German accent and laughed out loud! I remember hearing someone say around that time that "terrain is the third army on the board", and I got really into painting terrain up in detail for a while.

Thanks Gary, it was a classic match up and I felt bad for poor Gazgkhull, who ended up being surrounded in a building on his own and repeatedly strafed by the Vultures until he finally went down. If I'd been playing with my Krieg, I might have ordered an in-character bayonet charge!
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
Cheers Ollie, it was a Covid project to get it all painted and it's given many years good service since then. If you put it all together as one terrain piece it makes a huge ruined cathedral! (By the way, love the Halloween name! Very good)

Played a really close fought game of 40K, representing part of the Armageddon War. My opponent has never used the mission deck before but agreed the Tactical Secondaries added a huge amount to the game. It was tactical and cutthroat, but my Steel Legion edged a win over his Orks, 76-53.
A Cityfight board ready for a game of 40K. Two main streets run the length of the board, with ruined buildings everywhere. There are Orks in the bottom right of the picture, and a Steel Legion in the top left. The huge armoured form of Gazgkhull Thrakka and three armoured Mega Nobz stomps through the street. A Leman Russ Demolisher begins a flanking attack, as two Vulture gunships sweep in and launch the first of a series of devastating airstrikes. A Chimera disembarks a squad of infantry onto the central objective.

In the dying days of the Siege of Terra, the loss of their Primarch drove some of the IX. Legion into the pits of madness, from which some never emerged. Formerly angelic warriors, they became little more than ravening berserkers, butchering friend and foe alike.
Ten Horus Heresy Blood Angels in power armour with jump packs. The shoulder pads and helmets are black, and they carry either spears or longswords. The sergeant steps forwards, preparing a deadly two handed downward strike with a long spear with a cutting blade. Another stands ready to make a cut with his two handed sword. One warrior advances firing a wrist mounted Tempest bolter.

I'm just googling them and they look so cool - some fire effects would look really nice on them. Thanks for the tip!
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
A very cool idea, I have a 40K game tomorrow - I'm going to suggest we try this!
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
Definitely worth it, it looks really cool. I need to give that a try, just very reluctant to learn something new. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go - and I'll keep an eye out for more updates!

Oh I am in the very (very) early stages, I know next to nothing about Aeldari lore, but I loved the picture of this one, it really piqued my interest... I remember my brother had it on the front cover of one of his codexes growing up so I recognised it straight away
Head and shoulders portrait of an Eldar hero, their face illuminated but what is apparently a fire in front of them (not visible in the picture, maybe a sword?), their hand curled up and held next to their face, perhaps showing pain. In their eyes and mouth you can see a burning fire within, and smoke coming from inside. They're wearing a winged face mask with luscious curling hair mouted on it. The tone is red and yellow, but the just-visible background is cold blue.
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
I love that, it's a really nice piece of lore that I assume is tying in with all the battle damage of the bone armour. So very cool. I was browsing that WarCom article today on Eldar art and it did have me musing on a new army...
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
Oooh, now THAT'S an interesting idea. Nothing makes it feel less like a tactical game than just shooting one thing at a time until the priority target is dead, then switching fire. I really like that. Plus Ld check to shoot at long targets is a classic GW rule I love, it needs to come back.

Sat at home after a very long week at work, relaxing by creating some custom units for my Horus Heresy Lost Legions army. Homebrewing units and special rules seems to be a dying art, fewer and fewer people do it these days. Anyone else got any homebrew units to share? Model pics or rules ideas?
A screengrab of Microsoft Word, showing my unit card. It's the profile for an "Iapetus Command Engine", based on a Domitar Battle Automata. It's a table showing the stats and special rules for my own homebrew unit, which is designed to lead an army of zombified, mindlocked Space Marines from the lost II. Legion into battle, so it has rules reminiscent of the Synapse Creature rules from 40K 3rd Edition. Marines close to the Iapetus will be able to carry out additional actions and have improved stats.
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
I would really like to see proper DoW rules come back. But in the meantime I've been having loads of fun with the Empire list, borrowing odd units from other lists to represent specific units, and giving them pikes for +3gc per model (spears that fight in three ranks).
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
This is a lovely model, and a really cool concept for an army. Does it have any lore behind it or is it just a cool painting project at this stage?
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
Very nice, I love this sort of thing. What programme to you use to make this? I've been using Publisher for about 25 years but just found out it's being finally, irretrievably retired and I'm looking for an alternative.
edpaintskrieg.bsky.social
Haha well spotted, I didn't scroll up there!
