And you, governor, should stop providing state cops to police protesters for ICE at Broadview.
govpritzker.illinois.gov
ICE is recklessly throwing tear gas into our neighborhoods and busy streets, including near children at school and CPD officers.

The Trump Administration must stop their deployment of dangerous chemical weapons into the air of peaceful American communities.

The 15 y/o detained by CBP today in the East Side neighborhood has been released per a statement from his attorneys.

Story tk in the morning.
CHICAGO (October 14, 2025) – A 15-year-old American citizen was detained by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents today in a manner reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, holding him incommunicado in a federal building garage for five hours without informing his family, stating any charges, or allowing him to call an attorney. The teenager, who is Hispanic and African American, was grabbed off a Chicago East Side street at approximately 12:30 p.m. CST slammed to the ground, kneed in the back, and zip-tied by CBP agents. He was then transported to a federal law enforcement facility not affiliated with CBP or ICE, where CBP agents held him, handcuffed, in the back of a vehicle in a garage—never booking him, never reading him his rights, never stating why he was detained, and never allowing him to contact his mother. For five hours, his mother had no idea where her son was or whether he safe. Federal agents provided no information about his whereabouts, no phone call, no explanation for the arrest. His mother’s terror was amplified by her son’s heart condition and the complete absence of any information from authorities.

"This is how people disappear in autocracies—grabbed off streets, held in unmarked locations, no calls to family, no stated charges, no due process," said Founding Partner Antonio M. Romanucci of Romanucci & Blandin, the firm that obtained his release this evening. "A 15-year-old American citizen was effectively 'disappeared' for five hours in Chicago. This is not law enforcement; this is the playbook of authoritarian regimes."

At least nine people have been arrested by feds at Cook County courthouses since July, and feds have arrived at courthouses three other times seeking to arrest people, per Cook County Public Defender’s office.

Officials suspect there have been more incidents though.

The order takes affect Wednesday and bars the civil arrest of any “party, witness, or potential witness” while going to, remaining at or returning from court proceedings inside the courthouse or its parking lots, sidewalks or entryways.

Judicial warrants can still be served.

If you have a platform, maybe stop debating the reasonableness of universal masking as though anyone who still masks has the social power to require that and talk instead about how local governments, employers and schools are banning the masks that disabled people need to stay alive.

Headline doesn't make clear the point: "The proclamation gives the county the power to assist residents they say have been impacted financially by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) action." So it's treating ICE like a natural disaster. Only ongoing, and very unnatural

This post was written before today's car crash and chemical attack. Was referring to the preceding car crashes and chemical attacks.

Yes, you should be surprised and horrified by secret federal police running around our city kidnapping immigrants, crashing cars, launching chemical weapons and shooting and killing people. This is a thing you should be *perpetually* shocked by. We lose when we become numb to it.

You long for breathy intonations of a lover, you receive hollow compliments scraped, sludge-like on a spackle-knife from what might have been echoes of real feelings once, but are now sewn together, empty-eyed platitudes

Because the consequences never entered into the frame. Everyone knows people imbibe it, but they simply imagine those people as consumers or political messengers; we all “know” about them. No one thinks they are actually affecting the world because they don’t listen to the targets of their bigotry.

For the past at least five years, many of the world’s most prominent academics and journalists have been openly pushing the idea that people need to be “exposed” to bigoted ideas and taught by bigoted professors. Why are we then surprised when we find bigots in charge of our children?

If your first thought as a reporter when racing to the scene where an invading fed paramilitary of murderous freaks are blanketing yet another neighborhood in chemical weapons after kidnapping people is to count how many objects are thrown at them, just quit. Just quit

Kind of amazing that the photo Politico used of one of these folks -- the one who made a joke about gas chambers -- is from an event that Politico sponsored last summer.

Out at Broadview to see if the fence will be taken down today. The Iron Workers at local 63 which is near by the facility are wearing “Fuck Trump” buttons and heckled Ben Bergquam and Terry Newsome as they tried to antagonize protesters on Beach Street.

I cannot believe people were losing their jobs for being mildly critical of Charlie Kirk and the president of the united states just went on tv and said "skill issue loser, RIP but I'm different"

Also if you’re the type to mask while sick why get all bent out of shape when people promote more masking as illness prevention? I’ll never get that, what a weird line to hold and what a weird thing to get angry on social media about
yungquiabo.bsky.social
it's rather to surreal to see people talk about how masking when you're sick makes sense, seemingly unaware of the fact that you can mask-to-not-get-sick

and even if it's not (masking def isnt always easy for me), i think most who understand what it takes to achieve major societal change can say that very few of these actions are "easy" nor comfortable, if not outright stigmatized or dangerous, before they were seen as essential by future historians.

every time some "mainstream leftist" starts griping about COVID cautious solidarity, they're selling out the vital & achievable ideal of public health AS collective care. it helps no one & simply adds to the damage already being done by more fascistic minimizers

so much of this shit boils down to people whining about masking, which is basically a smokescreen for "i don't want to have to think about it all the time", which like, do you think anybody fucking does?

liberal talking heads w huge platforms dismissing covid caution as unreasonable is...really not what we need when the state is already bending over backwards to obliterate public health

And if you want systemic interventions (eg meaningfully enforceable clean indoor air standards) instead? Okay, let’s talk about that. But I have yet to see the people who reject masking embrace, eg, 12 ACH
