pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong,

it is right.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness,

it is a strength.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,

it is unlimited.

I think it's a really smart business decision, personally, to make my company wholly dependent on software that we never needed before.

Surely the gAI subscriptions I now rely on will *never* raise dramatically in price.

don't know who needs to hear it but having a phone camera database that unilaterally determines beyond any other documentation who the president's violent secret police can arrest, relocate to hide across state lines, then deport without trial is super easy to add anyone else to he doesn't want here
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

“10 anime better than My Hero Academia”

Let me stop you right there. That’s not a thing. You like a show because it is good. You are not in a battle to discover “the best” cartoon in the world. Watch a show because it interests you.

This bothers me more and more as I get older. It is so normal to change our minds when we encounter new information. Everyone’s so scared of being a little embarrassed at not knowing, but it’s fine and normal to not know everything.
I am frankly sick of all the people who insist “so and so seemed off from the start.”

Stop lying. Sometimes bad people are very charming and likable and you liked them and that’s fine.

We got lucky that the nazi smart enough to run as a fake progressive in a race where people are frustrated was also dumb with to have "I'm a Nazi" tattooed on his chest.
Needs to be a reminder to all of us to look deeper than a flashy campaign launch.
I have comics to write, but I have one more thing to say about Platner:

I think he's a liar.

I am a grown adult with a normal grasp of human nature and reality and I think he's lying when he says he JUST found out it's a fucking NAZI tattoo.

I think he's a liar.

As a millennial who hung out with all the weird kids in high school, I agree that it was normal for guys to go through an edgelord phase. But I absolutely do not agree that the average millennial edgelord phase included "being a nazi for a little bit"
i actually don’t think the “average” american millennial man had a nazi phase. it’s not some boys will be boys shit. this makes me side eye you and your friend group, sounds like a personal problem

Chuck Dixon created Bane. I don't bring this up to argue that creating that character somehow negates his current behavior, but to talk about a problem very prevalent in comics. And that is bigoted people making bank off the very marginalized groups they later demonize and discredit.
Fuck Chuck Dixon.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.
Bigger number means I got better at the walking game, yes?
Misread this as "Christian Rodan" and thought that new Godzilla comic universe was about to take a really weird turn for a second
Our own Cristian Roldan is going to play in the World Cup. 🥲

We need to establish as an online society that messaging an unfamiliar person on any platform with "hey." or "can I ask you a question?" and then silence is not okay.

Ask the question. It's hella more efficient AND courteous if you ask the question, thank the person for their time and send.
I never really expected to have a Supergirl book jumping to the top of my pile every time a new issue came out, but Sophie Campbell's run is just that good
