This from the great @sulliview.bsky.social on the media's anemic (or non-) coverage of the massive No Kings movement is such a great point

The main reason why Vought is so angry is that he is not just after political power in a narrow sense but obsessed with status and cultural domination. He believes there is a “natural” order of white male Christian domination in all spheres of life – and America is supposed to follow it.

The Daily is committed to sanitizing Vought and ignoring what they regard as unsavory ideology. Because engaging with what is actually animating Vought would make it very hard to uphold the “normal politics” framework that defines much of mainstream political journalism.

We tell people if they work hard and play by the (entirely arbitrary white supremacist) rules, they'll have healthcare and a house with a white picket fence. Instead we have the world's largest prison population, jails used as mental health facilities,

This is a GoFundMe supporting the tamale lady taken by ICE on 21st Place and Damen in Pilsen yesterday.

“Now she’s being forced to start over in Mexico with nothing — no home, no job, and no access to the medical care she desperately needs.”

I don't want to be insulting, smug, and snobbish, but on top of everything else, is a fugly ass watch.

I desperately want Americans to want better *for themselves* than tacky licensed gold plated slop. It's so depressing.

It's very weird (and yet clearly effective) that maga keeps smearing DEI as "unconstitutional"

This is a perilous moment for democracy in the United States, but I couldn’t be prouder of the Knight Institute’s work right now, and I don’t take for granted that we have the freedom and resources to do it. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that Donald Trump’s first appearance in the New York Times was when the Nixon Justice Dept. sued him and his father for refusing to rent apartments to black people.

It’s oligarchs all the way down.

These guys have gotten incredibly rich by fleecing the government with subpar tech that was designed for rentseeking rather than performance. A smart Dem agenda item would be to build internal tech capacity. The fact that it would punish these guys is just a silver lining.

Douthat is laundering hard core white Christian supremacy into the mainstream, with the NYT's blessing.
maxkennerly.bsky.social
Ross Douthat treats this guy like they're having some deep conversation about the relationship of Christianity and the government, but the dude is a garden-variety dull, shallow, hateful, worthless bigot with nothing interesting to say, just endless riffs on "God hates everything/everyone I do."
Douthat: So that’s the first purpose of your political project, for America to stop making God angry.

Wilson: Yes. And most people think that when they are confronted with that project, they think that we want to get our tentacles into everything and start controlling everything. I actually think we need limited government. The government should be significantly smaller than it is, and we need to curtail a lot of the busybodyness that we have. That’s why I would call myself a theocratic libertarian. There is a true libertarian element in this, and yet, the transcendent grounding for what we’re talking about means that we acknowledge the authority of God.

We have racked up quite a body count of awful crimes, and I believe the only way out is for us to repent and turn to Christ. This would be things like no more Pride parades, no more drag queen story hours, no more abortion on demand, no more legalized same-sex unions — all of that, done. That’s the repentance part.

There's a major book to be written about the manner in which Elon Musk bucked all health and safety regulation and blocked enforcement action through corruption and legerdemain. This is the essential fact behind his political engagement in 2024, and his maneuvering into DOGE.
