The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after.

And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before. If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too.

I have no particular stance on whether estrogen would have saved Shinji, but I'm looking at it from the family dynamic angle, and... well, Jesus Christ. On a good day, Shinji already looks like a teenage soft butch version of Yui Ikari - can you imagine how Gendo would react to his "son" slowly morphing into his dead wife?

Once I explained that what the slogan means is “redirect the massive amounts of money spent on the police to instead fund social services, mental health services, housing, etc.” so we can stop sending police to shoot homeless people having mental health crises, she was like, Oh! and all for it.

In fairness, “Defund the Police” was a nice short slogan but also deeply misleading to most people. I had to spend like half an hour explaining to my mother (who, while probably not as far left as me, is absolutely a D voter) what it actually means, because she was deeply against it as-stated.

Hmm. I think if the plan is just to stop for the night and if you don’t necessarily need to stop in that particular place, I’d be looking at nearby areas to try to find a better rate. But that’s just me; I think it totally depends on your personal priorities.

We are now home and I managed to finish up the Petition I needed to draft so good job, me. Time to sleep. 😭

Bells was having breathing issues; she now has meds and instructions to rest, but we largely ruled out anything immediately catastrophic. Seems the likeliest suspect atm is kitty asthma.
