So, I asked my Echo to play Fur Elise and it for some bizarre reason defaulted to:
(A) an “ABC Nursery Rhymes” version from an album called “Classical Baby,” which nevertheless
(B) is the most cursed, horror-movie sounding rendition of the piece I’ve ever heard.

Cost to fund SNAP and keep 42 million people from starving:

$100 billion

Cost of lost revenue due to tax cuts for the richest Americans in the top 1%:

$100 billion

One is decried as "welfare." One is not.

Why?

I know it's silly but this is the first thing that makes me feel like I might actually see this finished in my lifetime
Today La Sagrada Família is having the first part of the crowning cross of the Jesus Tower installed. This will finally take it past Ulm Minster's 161.5 metres (begun 1392, completed with octagon and spire 1885-90) as the tallest church in the world!

That’s just one story. I have other spooky stories about seeing my great-grandfather walking into the bathroom, or someone tapping my shoulder at Christmastide. And I’m not the only one. Lots more relatives have their own spooky stories. Like grabbing your ankles as you sleep in an ancestor’s bed.

But here’s the thing: There was nobody there!!! And so the doorbell keeps ringing incessantly and loud for about five minutes until an older cousin of mine says, “Bisabuela Aurea, we’re going now. Happy Christmas.” The doorbell stopped ringing! And we all just freaked out, like WTF?!!!

So before leaving for the city, my family takes a photo in front of the ancestral home, right? A few days after the first day of Christmas (the 25th), we all gathered for the family photo. And as were about to pose and smile, the doorbell starts ringing. Mind you, the doorbell is at the gate.

Right?! The ancestors come to visit, like. I’ve so many spooky stories from Christmases at my mother’s ancestral home, yikes.
I like Halloween but if we are being honest with ourselves, Christmas is a spookier time.

In the UK, I heard one old dear serving in a coffee shop, replying to someone asking:

'Hey, can I get a coffee?'

'No dear, you sit down, I get the coffee'.

Turning away a Eucharistic Procession with full monstrance? He’d have been holding the canopy over it. The man was not messing about being a Catholic.

This is unarguable, mind. Stopping people going to Mass would press every damned button he had.

Let’s be real: approximately ten seconds after you told Tolkien that Catholics couldn’t go to Mass because they were afraid of being disappeared by agents of the government, he’d be out there protesting.

We shouldn't have to pretend the yikes stuff isn't there just to beat a turd like Musk in an argument.
would say i am quite pro-tolkein‘s writing but some of the claims on here about the politics are getting a little embarrassing

Absolutely mind-blowing* that big parties pander to the right after a left-wing candidate won by a gigantic margin.

"The public clearly asked for this thing, which is why we're offering the other thing."

*and predictable
Nazis aren't known for their intelligence, but they can tell the difference between a true believer vs a weak politician who is caving in.

This will not go well for Harris - not because online lefties are disgusted, but because the fash will never stop squeezing now.

Govt should reconsider immigration policies, says Harris
Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris has said Ireland's asylum seeker system is not working and that the Government should reconsider existing policies "in a very serious way".

You in fact can't talk about the history of the labor movement without talking about multi-ethnic coalitions. The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union was initially composed of Jewish and Italian immigrants, but later grew to Black, Puerto Rican, Chinese, and Filipino workers.

Americans, you need to stop this man. Or alternatively, since you claim he is ‘the leader of the free world’, you could give equal votes to the citizens of the rest of the free world.

Diversity doesn’t weaken unions. Racist bosses like Vance using racism to divide workers by race so they can exploit them weakens unions. All this stuff is arsonists complaining about the temperature in the building they set on fire. bsky.app/profile/diew...
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵
Amen.
Look upon my adversity and misery: and forgive me all my sin.

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things, / making thee young and lusty as an eagle.
Psalm 103.5 (1962 Book of Common Prayer, page 460)
Deo gratias. 🙏🏼
“What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?”
— Romans 8:35

Or <fill in your own cross to bear>?

NO! Jesus had conquered all of these out of love for you.
