Because SE's QA people are probably not in a position to defend themselves and their jobs in public, I want to spell out some of what it is they specifically do for us localizers, because nothing I've written here is rhetorical. SE QA acts as a final check on our work after translation and editing.

You don't need me to tell you this is yet more good money being burned after bad. But as someone who's worked with that QA team, I'll say they're unsung heroes who truly play a huge role in maintaining SE's reputation for high quality locs and to attempt to replace them with AI is deeply insulting.

If you're looking for a new book series to pick up try Discworld.
~40 books.

Most have 3 layers to them: serious social commentary on today's issues (gun reform, gender equality, racism) and parody as a glue, tongue in cheek stuff, and the in-world narrative, the plot.

Rapidly going through the ~40 Discworld novels and an early one has this line, "welcome to [city] we have more pronouns here."

Pratchett wasn't just prolific; he was very ahead of his time.

Keep in mind, we got gay marriage barely more than 10 years ago, this book was more than 30 years ago.

A lot of the business failures of the games industry are really rooted in this desire to create a product that dominates the market. The recent Amazon thing really highlights that: they wanted to create a product that outperformed Steam, but they didn't understand Steam or what the audience wanted.

I am a 41 year old woman and seeing models and artists like this one, and having the option in videogame character creation to have vitiligo, it totally changed how I felt about it. For most of my life I only heard very negative reactions, it's on my hands so it's very visible. Then suddenly it became beautiful and a positive thing and it's really impactful. People have actually complimented me on it which blew my mind. It seems like such a small change but has a tsunami-sized effect.

A woman who rang ABC Sydney radio said she found out about the Optus outage from her cat.

The cat has an automatic wi-fi feeder (connected to Optus) & when breakfast wasn't delivered at 6:10 am, the cat went to the bedroom to lodge a complaint with management.
