"Chad, your family is weird."

Waaa? Wait are you talking about my grandpa that fell off a giant oil tank in the middle of Texas and broke his back?
Then he crawled 2 miles, shot a rattlesnake and fought off bandits to get to his truck and then drove home for dinner so Grandma wouldn't worry?

Highly recommend preparing threads for when people think you're full of shit about something, super nice to reuse threads you have.

Built this list in response to some industry vets that recently thought I didn't know what I was talking about in games.

(I don't, but not for reasons they know of!!)
I'll be adding to this over time, I truly can't remember them all anymore:

1. legend of zelda collector's edition
2. hamtaro's ham-ham games
3. ridge racer ds
4. fire emblem...something
5. pikmin 2
6. puzzle quest XB
7. pokemon - a gba one
8. paper mario 1000 year door
9. metroid prime hunters

When I talk about the number of games I've been on the number can vary widely.

I've been doing this since I was 15, many years of multiple games at the same time, does each Destiny 2 release count as a game? (yes), etc.

This is an open thread that has the games I've been on one way or another...

Early April, 1999, watched The Matrix.

When we got out of the theater it started to snow, which is unheard of in April here.

My friend, she'd never really watched sci-fi like that, freaked the efff out. Her mind was blown by the movie and snow in April minutes after the movie broke her mind a bit.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I don't know if we'll have another Pokemon Go in history.

I traveled swaths of the world when it was big and new, and saw probably thousands of people in big groups playing it.

Japan, Europe, Mexico, Canada, States

My first back pain was wandering a parking lot for hours hunting down pokemans. ♥️
#AmWriting the section about Pokémon GO. Here's a sample, about testing the game at the motorcade entrance to the White House and talking to one of the Secret Service agents working the guard house. He had just asked me why I was telling him that I was going to be doing weird things with my phone.

Also, the main reasons for this union?

Return to office mandates and AI.

I hope we see more RTO pushback at this level.

It is probably one of the biggest improvements across the board for workers in decades.

Some studies showed it to be around the equivalent of a 20% pay raise to quality of life
This is the way to do it.

The union is across the whole company.
This means leadership can't just fire a department, like we see with various QA groups being let go.

It's cross discipline, so true collective bargaining is possible, and 'solidarity' moves are feasible.

I wake up.

Search for the last scene I remember from the night before.

Audio book woes.
Can't miss a second.

Weigh myself, 0.8 lbs overnight.
Zepbound stuff.

Ohhh, hhhmmmm, candied bacon leftovers in the fridge.

Eat a little, nibble or two.
The good stuff.

Back to sleep.

Bars often have deals with local cab companies or specific uber drivers for folks who drank too much.

They are liable if they overserved you, so it's in their best interest to help you out.

It's okay to ask if they can call you a cab if you don't know anyone to help out.

Don't die or kill anyone.

Hey, with all the holiday gatherings happening, I just wanted to point out that if you're drinking, and drink too much, leaving your car in a parking garage and ubering home...then, ubering back in the morning, is 10x cheaper than getting caught and getting a DUI and 1000x safer.

Bars can help too.

One of the earlier Halo games had $400 million for marketing.
In the meetings, friend 'signed' the check, so stupid.

It was the most anticipated game for years before advertising, they could have spent pennies on marketing and it would have been a success.
I'm going to throw some cold water on the anger about this.

It is now considered ROUTINE for AAA games to spend as much on marketing as they do on Dev. Dev costs $200M? That's the starting point of conversation on how much to spend on marketing, PR and ads.

When I started in games, to make a build it was a machine a spare desktop tower under someone's desk (Monolith).

A handful of years later, it took about 100 machines to build a game (FASA).

Those numbers kept just creeping up.

When I left Bungie, it was around 1000 machines to make a build....
