I think if we can't see that authoritarian tendencies were very deliberately worked into our very founding, we can't understand authoritarian tendencies now.

The federal government has censored the work of dozens of scientists, including work by my lab, on the impacts of climate change on Acadia National Park. Signs have been removed from Cadillac and Great Meadow. They’re also removing signs about the Wabanaki’s sacred connections to Cadillac.

Bologna, the site of a long-running film restoration festival, is a movie buff’s paradise. “If movies were people,” Anthony Lane writes, “Bologna is where they would choose to live.”
The Exacting Magic of Film Restoration
Each year, at a festival in Bologna, movies that were once lost or damaged come back to life.

wow!
Every day after sunset during summer + fall hundreds of thousands of bats leave the their roost near Sacramento, CA to feed

A family of Swainson's hawks waits for them for their own dinner.

Due to the light they're hard to photograph.

Last night one caught a bat less than 30 feet in front of me 🪶

WHAT
Congressional Democrats voted today to sell out Washington DC and their constituents, as numerous Dems backed bills advancing the Trump takeover of DC. After meeting with our Council and saying nice things, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and leadership *declined* to whip a No vote on the bills

26% Kit Kat price increase ahead of Halloween?? Lord have mercy
Great piece: “We work in dangerous settings. We climb bridges every day. My brother to the left and my brother to the right, they are my life. I depend on them. You take away my brother, you put my life at risk.” @phillyaflcio.bsky.social
Builders are hit hard by loss of construction workers as the Trump administration cancels permits, but they're scared, and leave it to union leaders like

For most Americans, the date 1913 means nothing. For Americans on the far right fringes, 1913 has long been a date of great significance. Here’s a piece from the antisemitic rag “American Mercury” in 1957, for example. One of their writers at the time was George Lincoln Rockwell.

NO WAY 🤬
School children and teens on their way home using the Washington DC Metro were allegedly stopped, forced to show ID, and thrown to the ground in and around Union Station by multiple law enforcement agencies while the National Guard watched (Sept, 3 2025)

Far from the first in the nation, or the world, and it's always a success and "experts" are always surprised. Same as giving housing to the homeless. Lives improve, there are benefits to the community, and then everybody with money and/or power gets their memory wiped and pretends it's complicated.

I don't want to hear Democrats tell us that they're not going to do Republican bullshit around labor.

I want them to tell us about how they're going to expand workers' rights in their state, and what their plan is if the Supreme Court scorches the National Labor Relations Act tomorrow.
