It's a matter of time before they start growing handlebar moustaches and giving themselves leitmotifs based on diminished chords

One thing that I’ve come around on in comics is it used to seem corny and childish that a bunch of guys would call themselves the Legion of Doom and meet in an old castle where they’d be like ”hiss let us defeat the ideas of hope and love hiss” but that’s what they’re actually doing in real life lol

When Jeeves first arrives at Bertie Wooster's home he says he was "sent by the agency". He never says WHAT agency. It's not a staffing agency, it's a secret govt dept that exists to preserve the status quo by preventing the critically daft upper class from shenaniganing themselves to the guillotine

It's also a good place to explain what show this meme is from, for those of us who don't watch enough TV

Please help keep Bluesky accessible for all, friends! It's really easy! Just choose Settings>Accessibility>Require alt-text & you'll get a reminder to add alt-text to your pictures.
You're all creative folks - describe your images clearly & completely to help screen reader users enjoy your posts.
The menu in bluesky, listing options for Explore, Chat, Notifications, Feeds, Lists, Profile & at the bottom, Settings which I've circled in red and added a big red arrow. The menu that opens when you select Settings, which lists Account, Privacy and Security, Moderation, Notifications, Content and Media, Appearance, Accessibility, Languages, Help and About. I've again circled accessibility in red and added an arrow. The menu that opens when selecting Accessibility listing Alt-text and Haptics.

The button "require alt text before posting" has been circled in red with an arrow.

There's also an option to display larger alt text badges and to disable haptic feedback.

I grew up in a secondhand bookshop owning house with full shelves on all vertical surfaces, which may have made me somewhat immune/disillusioned

Almost all books are of no interest to any given person, no matter how polymathic or eclectic they think they are. That's kind of the point.

I do have some Books As Objects of my favourite books, I guess it's like having a film poster. It's when people fawn over 'books' *without knowing which books they even are* that I don't get it
robinjohnson.bsky.social
It's Books (singular mass noun) As Matter that gives me the eyerolls. I see those posts where someone puts an image of a room covered in bookshelves and says "*drool*" and I'm like... what if they're all bad?
nick-pettigrew.bsky.social
The veneration of Books As Objects misses the point entirely. If you're reading a book, turn the corners down, break the spine, spill soup on it. It's your book, go nuts. A pristine, unread book is a tragedy in a way that a beloved, much-read book that looks like the dog's been at it could never be.

Why do people who talk about "figuring out how to live together" always mean we should shut up live with fascists, and not that fascists should shut up and live with minority groups
robinjohnson.bsky.social
Now that's what I call being "PUNCHED" by a "KANGAROO", eh readers?

Believe old game devs when we tell you: burnout is real, it's painful. Be honest with yourself, take the breaks when you need them.
I've been burnt out for so long, I only just realized how long. I went from crunch at Iridium into crunch at Giant Squid with no break. About 3 years. It was too long.

This is important. Unlike other allegedly “woke” cancellations, Columbus was known as a sadistic scoundrel even in his own time. Montesinos and De Las Casas complained loudly to Rome. He is not celebrated in any of the countries where he actually landed.

I'm like, why would you pay for that

… I just performed heart surgery to turn a guy into a city, technically fulfilling my agreement with a piece of the moon (but breaking the spirit of the agreement- the Creditor wanted me to turn the union leader into a city so they could marry her)

Fallen London is gloriously bizarre.

"Good news, I read your dishwasher's design spec and it's clearly NOT supposed to flood your kitchen. We will win this. That'll be $300"
cait.bsky.social
this is your fucking job that you're being paid to do. Imagine asking your plumber to stop your dishwasher from flooding your apartment and he's like "well what exactly do you want me to do?" The specifics are your part dog idk!

a group of people were like "i found a way to live my life as a truer version of myself" and instead of being like "that's beautiful, how can i help" people were like "i don't think schools should have books in them anymore"
