I grew up in a secondhand bookshop owning house with full shelves on all vertical surfaces, which may have made me somewhat immune/disillusioned

Almost all books are of no interest to any given person, no matter how polymathic or eclectic they think they are. That's kind of the point.

I do have some Books As Objects of my favourite books, I guess it's like having a film poster. It's when people fawn over 'books' *without knowing which books they even are* that I don't get it

It's Books (singular mass noun) As Matter that gives me the eyerolls. I see those posts where someone puts an image of a room covered in bookshelves and says "*drool*" and I'm like... what if they're all bad?

The veneration of Books As Objects misses the point entirely. If you're reading a book, turn the corners down, break the spine, spill soup on it. It's your book, go nuts. A pristine, unread book is a tragedy in a way that a beloved, much-read book that looks like the dog's been at it could never be.

Believe old game devs when we tell you: burnout is real, it's painful. Be honest with yourself, take the breaks when you need them.
I've been burnt out for so long, I only just realized how long. I went from crunch at Iridium into crunch at Giant Squid with no break. About 3 years. It was too long.

...and if you find it frustrating when they don't communicate with each other (I don't, as long as they behave in character, but I understand why you might) - isn't it *less* annoying if there's a logistical reason they can't?

I really like that though! The characters have all the information *between* them, but in order to win, the right info has to get to the right people. You the viewer, as the only omniscient being in play, know what NEEDS to happen and can cheer/experience tragic irony when it does/n't

why is the cell phone thing a problem? They'd be able to solve the case faster if they had a technology that doesn't exist yet? That's probably always true of most stories written more than a few decades ago

IMO it's improved. It works better as a period piece set in the 90s than it did as a contemporary show at the time.
