Where we stand, in long arc of history:

-Story on left, adding race as a factor when that favors white people.

-Story on right, banning race as a factor when that favors non-whites.

I often complain about NYT headlines and story-play. But these are strong. Including "If Court Guts 1965 Law."
Two headlines on front page of NYT.

First is "Trump Weighs Transforming Refugee Policy. White People Would be Given Preference."

Second is "Justices May Ban Race as a Factor in District Maps. Nation's Political Balance Could Shift If Court Guts 1964 Law."
I ride the NYC bus a lot and let’s be honest, many people already treat it as free. But with none of the QoL nightmares they predict! It’s actually quite pleasant!

. How dangerous are these drones?
. What can be done against such drones?
. Why have German authorities not taken action before?
. What needs to happen now?

Germany’s ‘Drone Fever’ Prompts Long-Needed Action
After having ignored the dangers of drone overflights of critical infrastructure, German authorities are finally taking action.

This quote explains a lot of modern discourse. Especially (but not entirely) on the right.
Quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted."

I’m not offended that they’re trying to remake “Amadeus.” I’m just puzzled. That movie is flawless. It’s as re-watchable as it gets. How do you even improve that?
I’m ecstatic to have him as a colleague, but It’s also terrible for the NYT, in one important way. He was far and away the best media reporter covering the Times and holding us to account.

This is an important story about not giving in to bullies. It's also @erikwemple.bsky.social in the @nytimes.com instead of his longtime home at the @washingtonpost.com. Great for the Times and its readers, but it's sad to see the hollowing out of the Post. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/13/b...

I was asked recently what the “big debates” are in ancient naval studies, the maritime equivalent of the hoplite debate. Three stand out clearly. Here is a short summary of some!

one of the realest tributes to Prince anybody did after he died. Somebody major needs to get on TV and do for “The Charade” what D’Angelo did here
