Wired: the cia is an agent of covert regime change abroad and that’s not only good but essential to democracy

we have to be willing to just fuck with foreign governments in order to promote pro-democracy forces and harm pro-authoritarian forces in those countries

*that's* our actual interest, not whatever faff natsec heads preach about "the rules based order"

Even committed conservative Republicans tend to baulk when shown quite a few of the down-ballot candidates Republicans have put up in the last decade or so? Tarring Trump and the people likely to staff his administration with the same brush should have been a priority?

My belief is that Kamala would have won last year if they’d let Tim Walz keep calling Vance and Trump “weird.” But the professional Dem consultant class closed off the one attack that actually resonated with voters.

Endlessly attacking Trump as depraved and support for him as a form of moral failure actually made people stop supporting him. Shame and disgust are very powerful weapons.

A lot of comments on Mars rovers or Moon landings, but it's important to remember that the planet NASA studies most is Earth. This is less about cutting flashy things like moonwalks and more about keeping communities in the dark on climate, weather, agriculture, pollution, natural hazards, and more.

Turned up at Confucius Institutes at his University dressed in Hazmat suits for a stunt, kind of thing.

Otherwise known for being downright weird in a vaguely predatory way, and trying desperately to suck up to the cool kids.

“dressing up as animals is insulting, this is war” is kind of a particularly bad complaint for Portland because they’ve been doing black bloc streetfighting shit for like, years at this point and the feds clearly aren’t scared to come back. might as well give “embarrass them” a shot.

Trump took office with a Israel-Hamas ceasefire in place, then announced a vision for Gaza as a US-owned resort, with most Palestinians living there gone. Israel restarted military ops in March and imposed famine. Thousands of dead Palestinians later, the Trump admin helped broker another ceasefire.
Opinion | Trump’s Nobel peace prize campaign is the least important part of the Gaza deal
If the ceasefire holds, the administration deserves much credit. But the fixation on Trump getting a prize distracts from things that actually matter.

Subianto is the original stop the steal guy lol, he refused to accept he lost in both 2014 and 2019.

Also did war crimes during the genocidal Indonesian occupation of East Timor and in the suppression of anti-Suharto protests.

Trump's conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is caught on a hot mic. Hard to tell exactly what they are talking about, but Subianto asks Trump about meeting Eric Trump and Don Jr, who supposedly have nothing to do with government while they run the family business.

the thing that annoys me about the 'elections won't save us' shit is that it's just a permission structure to wait for a powerful national social movement, and in their want a violent one, that *will never fucking exist*.

What really also annoys me is there’s also a variant of this that seem to think that there’s some magic secret trick the national movement will play that will solve politics, possibly forever, that somehow isn’t also mass violence.

I think my anti-Trump cred is pretty firm, but this is not consonant with the facts. I can both credit his team for this one thing and still insist he has to be stopped as a threat to democracy.

i do not have a lot of tolerance for people whining that Netanyahu fucked Biden over in order to get Trump in office so he could do whatever he wanted. yeah. he absolutely did that. that was obvious before 10/7.

there is no person on Earth more incompetent as a foreign policy thinker than Biden

I'm not exactly sure Elon is the guy I'd want to take advice from regarding "the war on drugs" in San Francisco.

As Mr. Musk entered President Trump’s orbit, his private life grew increasingly tumultuous and his drug use was more intense than previously known.

I really can’t imagine a more ideal scenario for anti-Trump politicians than MAGA spending a week explicitly turning the size of the 10/18 protests into a referendum on MAGA and Trump, while simultaneously making the protests the center of media attention. They are setting themselves up for disaster
