it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Forrest Smith, the only National Park Service engineer cleaning up abandoned oil and gas wells, lost his contract, leaving 93 orphaned wells on park lands unmanaged. These leaking wells release methane and toxins, threatening human health and the environment.

These are the 43% who think the US is on the right track. This is not an aberration, this is the plan.
Some of the worst people in the world.
Evangelicals are hot for starving kids.
What’s depressing is 43% of the United States is still hunky dory with kidnapping, terror operations by US troops in US cities, sanctioning state violence against black and brown people, removing bodily autonomy from women, etc.

That 43% is gonna keep trying for full dictatorship.
NEW NBC POLL-Generic Ballot
Democrats: 50%
Republicans: 42%

Trump Approval:
55% Disapprove
43% Approve
They are lying… to themselves, to pollsters, and to The NY Times many articles on the subject.
My eye twitches every time I think about people saying they voted for Trump because of the price of eggs.

YOU DUMB BARN-OWL EYED BITCHES HAVE DOOMED US ALL.

Yes, an important test for the midterms.
If ICE agents begins harassing voters on the way to vote on Tuesday, we need local prosecutors to charge the ICE officers with state law crimes. We need to send a message for 2026 that they will be swiftly arrested.
There was a study in Europe that I read decades and decades ago pre Internet articles) that tied welfare to homogeneity… the more diverse the society, the harder it was to pass and maintain social services and support networks.
"Why don't people support welfare programs?"

Racism. More specifically, anti-Blackness.

White folks asked about who welfare serves overestimate the number of Black people on welfare. Not only that, but just the mere THOUGHT of who welfare supports led less white people to support it. #blacksky
Hahahahahahaha Californians are fake environmentalists. When I work on retail improvement projects, we have a hard time shipping light bulbs b/c SOOOOO many enviro regs. But freeway widening, road expansions, greenfield development, anti-infill & bike movements, prop tax structure are climate arson.
Doubling down on forced car dependency is *not* the path to addressing climate change.

Any city or state that isn’t investing in ebike subsidies and separated bike infrastructure is missing out on more affordable climate, health and livability wins via bikes.
After 4 years and 2 failed attempts, California is giving up on the idea of ebike subsidies and dumping the money back into electric car subsidies.
Nothing like a greenhouse in gardens that sprung up around royal residences back in the day… monarchy money man. #KewGardens #stunday #giantluly

I would like for national political reporters to place a moratorium on “But what will voters in the rest of America think about New York City’s socialist mayor?” We don’t care! Red states are notably full of psycho politicians yet rarely do you see pundits asking Brooklyn people about them.
I love this.

One of my beliefs is that every city council should hold a fun, outdoor meeting at least once a year. Descend the dais, you know!?!
One of my beliefs is every public establishment should have a ping pong table. You should be able to drop in anywhere for a quick Pong

Holy shit. Friends, here is a panel on the question "why don't Americans trust the media?'

I scrolled ... scrolled ... increasingly amazed ... scrolled ...

Nope. No one so much as *mentions* the 6-decade, billionaire-funded campaign by the right to destroy trust in media! Not even in passing!

Not even a year in, and here are the brownshirts.
“Under the plan, bounty hunters may receive “monetary bonuses” depending on how successfully they track down their targets — and how many immigrants they then report to ICE.”

Or ICE could just fund the Klan directly.
ICE Plans Cash Rewards for Private Bounty Hunters to Locate and Track Immigrants
Companies hired by ICE would be given bundles of information on 10,000 immigrants at a time to locate — and paid cash bonuses for performance.

PDX also has singers… I’ve often gone through security with their guitar on the belt!
The declining birth rates in all cultures that’s present when women achieve some measure of economic and social autonomy, and the obsession with “correcting” it are going to be an increasing and interesting political tension in a world dependent on capitalism’s requirements 4 constant growth.
Women’s autonomy over their land, labor and lives has long been treated as a threat.

As we approach another Election Week, women again stand at the threshold between what is and what could be.

At these moments I really wonder what it’s like to move through the world assuming that females want to hear your random, unhelpful, unsolicited advice, stories, etc.

It is truly sad that mansplainers are so disconnected, they can’t feel the “really not interested” vibe rolling off of women.
Let’s just put it this way, students rarely do anything on their own (esp private school)… architect parents help them build things for classroom projects, business parents help them create non-profits for their college applications, parents pay for massive test prep… no way a parent didn’t know.
i inquire, once more, why are goyim
Evidently there was an Auschwitz-themed float in a Halloween parade in Pennsylvania.

The float was for a Catholic school, and to their credit the church immediately disavowed it.

Thing is, I don’t think high school kids did this entirely on their own. I’m guessing parents had to be involved.
We set a bad precedent with Nixon. You can do anything and get away with it was the GOP takeaway.
People keep saying there’s gonna be a “reckoning” for this or that thing Trump does.

Really?

Was there a reckoning for Bush43 attacking a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, his inequality-exploding tax cuts, his Katrina failures, or his firing of US attorneys?

I submit there was not.

i genuinely cannot stand actual european elites condescendingly explaining american public opinion to americans. reminds me of when some british lady IRL tried to tell me she understood southerners better than i ever could, a southerner who lives in the south.
The educated liberal big city US folks outraged at Trump's renovation of Lincoln bathroom really need to scroll some Facebook of their less established relatives and friends to see what kind of aesthetic resonates with Trump's target audience.
Could these comments have any more of an “unsolicited man opinion” vibe?
I was helping someone w/ a test ride of a cargo bike today & a passerby stopped to tell us:

1) He has an ebike that goes 60mph (not an ebike).
2) Cargo bikes are single use (?)
3) It’s bad to have kids in cargo bikes bc they should be pedaling their own bikes (the family had a 6 month old baby).

When we lived in Argentina, without insurance, my older daughter fell out of a tree she was climbing outside a cafe we were eating at with friends. Her broken wrist required orthopedic closed reduction, casting, the restaurant we were in called an ambulance, X-rays, etc. Total cost to us: $0.00.
Our health care system is so broken it’s insane.

Stop letting them make you believe a better one is impossible.
