Seems like the new craze here is to make a starter pack. So, for those you trying to make sense of the hr/dem/rol landscape in Poland and lost as to how many Supreme Courts the country has, here are some quality people to begin with.

Yes, having two left-wing parties catfighting is a drama that we need to get sorted out.

Is it wrong to hope that some last-minute Hanukkah incident by Czarnek or Mejza will steal just enough antisemitic votes to deny Braun a platform for his views in the Polish parliament?

The Left getting 4.9% and Razem getting 4.9% and KKP (ultra-right) getting 5.1% would be a very erm urm interesting Sejm where every Polish right-wing perspective from liberal-conservative to "Jews, Jews everywhere, can we not have any Jews?" would be present loudly and visibly.

🇩🇪⚖️🇵🇱🇪🇺 Apparently, my quotes for @politico.eu made their way into pro-PiS circles on Twitter, where I am being described as a volksdeutsch propagandist working for Hertie School. Sorry, @hertieschool.bsky.social, can't help that those people can't read.

A new exhibition on “Ten Centuries of Polish Russophobia” has opened in Moscow, organised by a state historical society.

The display presents the Kremlin's revisionist view of history, including downplaying Soviet responsibility for the Katyn massacre.

Not ruling that out, but my wife's job (M.D.) is incredibly immobile, everybody wants her to take a language exam and professional exam and to prove that she doesn't practice witchcraft.

Polish Catholic Church is currently in the phase of transitioning from a religious and moral authority to a real estate management/retirement facilitation company; they don't have much space for dealing with health care beyond some usual LGBT bad, sex education worse stuff.

Hello, we are an educated couple, and that whole abortion thing is high on the list of reasons why we don't have kids.
jakubjaraczewski.bsky.social
Also note how Orban is handing out a tax cut (nebulous, might be insignificant if tax breaks reduce it anyway) while Kaczyński handed out hard, cold cash, quite obvious that Fidesz is running out of money while PiS knew that Polish economy is about to explode and handle that easily.
jakubjaraczewski.bsky.social
Just like the Polish 500+ (now 800+) by PiS - it was stated to be about raising birth rates, it didn't, its real goal was a political boost. On a bright note, as an unintended side-effect, it did sharply reduce poverty rates in families with kids.
jakubjaraczewski.bsky.social
This isn't about having more kids; this is Fidesz getting more and more desperate ahead of the elections. I wouldn't be surprised if, by March 2026, they will announce full tax exemption for every family with kids, only to find it "financially unsustainable" if Viktor wins.

EU Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi faces allegations of involvement in espionage by Hungary against the European Union.

ALBERTO ALEMANNO (@alemanno.bsky.social) explains why the Várhelyi Affair is a test of institutional self-defence – and how the EU can respond.

verfassungsblog.de/varhelyi-com...
Quote: “The Várhelyi affair poses a question the Union has never had to answer so starkly: What happens when a member state treats the institutions it helped create not as a common project, but as hostile territory to be infiltrated and undermined?”

Oh, we're at the cyber future stage of applying and getting the documents online, it's just that it will probably for the rest of my life be done by the tiny green pastel building in the town of Stęszew and not some mighty building in Poznań or Warsaw.

One funny consequence of getting married in some picturesque location outside the city in Poland is that your fate is forever linked to some tiny burgermeister's office in a sleepy town or village, as they will issue your marriage certificates.
