🇵🇱🇩🇪🇪🇺⚖️ Research Coordinator at @democracyreporting.bsky.social, working on re:constitution programme - rule of law in the EU. Lives on a Berlin-Poznań-Warszawa train. "European Elitist". He/him. Full-time nerd. I'm a fan of bios longer than 160 characters.
🇵🇱⚖️The European Court of Human Rights announced this week that it will once again adjourn, for a year, all the pending cases against Poland concerning the right to a fair trial in cases presided over by "neo-judges". A victory for the Tusk government, but how long can this situation go on? 1/

🇺🇸 Happy to report that it's 2025 and local American media still deal with EU's GDPR this way (in this case, @orlandosentinel.com):

🇵🇱🚅🇵🇱 The renovated Gdańsk Główny railway station is an excellent improvement over the past, but so is making the surroundings of the station far more walkable than before.

🇵🇱🇩🇪 Some of you asked for pics of what you can find in a Polski Sklep in Berlin and here's some classic bangers.

🇪🇺🇺🇸🇬🇧🗳️I was milliseconds away from launching a "Oh God, yet another poll made only in highly developed Western countries" tirade when I noticed that, hey, Croatia and Poland are now in the West.

Now we know why Dagmara wore a cap to the Independence Day celebrations - she didn't want to hear all the "hey, Dagmara, is it true that Karol nixed your nominations?" questions.

🇬🇧📽️🇵🇱 My job sometimes takes me to unexpected places, such as yesterday to the opening of the British Film Festival in Poznań, at the invitation of the British Embassy in Poland. Many thanks to HE Dame Melinda Simmons and her crew for a fantastic evening of British-Polish cultural exchange!

🇪🇺⚖️Key development at Berlaymont - the Commission has just published the European Democracy Shield and the EU Strategy for Civil Society. In the coming days, I will be focusing in particular on the second document - the blueprint for how EU aims to support and protect the third sector.

With this part of Poland not celebrating independence until the German temporary squatters were forcefully evicted a few months later, St. Martin's Day eclipsed the independence celebrations, leading to funny scenes as Warsaw endures the far-right march and Poznań eats a lot of this:

🇵🇱🥐 It's 11 November, which is Remembrance Day for most of Europe, Independence Day for Poland, and St. Martin's Day for Poznań and Greater Poland, so I managed to get a hold of St. Martin's croissants at a Polski Sklep in Berlin and serve my colleagues this croissant bowl.

But! I harp on Germany often, but I know when to praise the country for its moments of brilliance, such as the "Wagenknecht capitulates faster than Ukraine" headline from TAZ.

Top-notch HFHR lawyers dr Marcin Szwed and Maciej Nowicki blasted the ideas for dealing with "neo-judges" by Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek, and drew a toasty rebuke (and some misspelling of names) by HFHR board member Prof. Wojciech Sadurski. Pluralism of opinion! 8/

First of all, whoever was in charge of identifying the participants for the AFCO panel needs to take a long, sobering walk outside. Ending up in a situation where a dean of a renowned law faculty quits your event is not a good look. 2/
