Every urbanist needs a close friend who navigates the city in a wheelchair/w mobility challenges & a friend who does city life w small children & a friend who does it living w age-related challenges. Understanding these perspectives is vital. If we built for these, it would work for nearly everyone.

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.
Just the start.
Common sense.

One of my first tweets as bike mayor was about how my bike is my mobility aid. Some old crank replied that I can’t be disabled if I ride a bike. Anyway, I achieved peak mobility aid today when I transported my electric wheelchair on my e-trike so I could *finally* enjoy Halifax’s Public Gardens.

This week at Fingers, I interviewed @resnikoff.bsky.social on the perverse relationship between parking minimums and drunk-driving, and why it's imperative to integrate bars and restaurants into broader conversation about housing density, zoning, etc.

I'll never get sick of this scene on my bike commute. Love the amazing construction of the Improvement Arches & with all the rain we've had this year things are so lush & green.
Funny to think about how a few hundred yards away people are sitting in traffic on the interstate. I'll take this any day.
