A similar thing happened to me about 25 years ago, when I was a preteen. It was a nightmare.

Now, thanks to AI, so many young girls all over the world will have to live that same nightmare.

Jenna Ortega revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she quit Twitter after seeing explicit images of herself generated by Al when she was a teenager. She also became inundated with messages from fans that ranged from "disgusting" to "absurd."
"I hate AI," Ortega said. "I mean, here's the thing: AI could be used for incredible things. I think I saw something the other day where they were saying that artificial intelligence was able to detect breast cancer four years before it progressed. That's beautiful. Let's keep it to that. Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It's terrifying. It's corrupt. It's wrong."

Like, there's no PREMIUM Bank of America website they're trying to sell me, just the same old one that worked for decades and now... doesn't. The fancy new ESPN app doesn't display the articles whose headlines you click on even IF you pay for ESPN+. It just... doesn't work any more.

Some of this is classic Doctorow Enshittification for commercial purpose, but a lot of it is just good old-fashioned Things Not Working.

Like, they're not fucking up to try to drive me to spend more money on some premium alternative, they're just fucking up because they can't be arsed to WORK.

Almost had our garbage service cut off because I couldn't pay our bills online, a problem shared by AT&T and Comcast's web sites, which usually take me about six tries each every month. Finally turned Quicken back on again, only to discover it can't download transactions ftom most of our banks.

I know it's old hat these days, but I am really getting increasingly annoyed at nothing in the internet WORKING any more.

Bank of America's website has stopped working in Firefox OR Chrome-based browsers. NWSL+ doesn't work in Firefox any more. The NEW IMPROVED ESPN app doesn't display articles.
