As someone who has worked with female lawyers my entire career, the Helen Andrews piece is genuinely hilarious. Ever female public defender I’ve every worked with would eat her argument for breakfast and then go back to fighting like hell for their clients.
The field that frightens me most is the law. All of us depend on a functioning legal system, and, to be blunt, the rule of law will not survive the legal profession becoming majority female. The rule of law is not just about writing rules down.
It means following them even when they yield an outcome that tug at your heartstrings or runs contrary to your gut sense of which party is more sympathetic.

The opposition to the US bailout for Argentina is both heartening in the short term and convinces me more than ever we’re never going to get USAID or any large-scale anti-disease programs back again because they’ll be painted as giveaways to foreigners.

I think probably the worst impact smart phones have had on desktop UI is the fucking notification tray that every single piece of software and website now wants to use to push both ads and actual alerts.

Call me old fashioned but I don’t think the military should be deployed to police the streets of American cities.

The deployment of military in this way doesn’t reduce crime, it is crime, and it makes us less safe.

You have to understand, people who demonstrate peacefully for the restoration of democratic norms are insurrectionists while people who rioted at the Capitol to overturn an election are patriots.

NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.

I might the only person alive who suffers seasonal depression and still prefers fall/winter to the summer.
I would bet that 80% of the boosters are related or close friends with an officer. This means, you get special assistance and are directly connected to the correct personnel.

For the general public, the system’s first line of defense is a clerical/procedural process that dehumanizes victims.

I hope even Red Line Extension skeptics (admittedly I'm a supporter) see that @chicagotribune.com comments about the Far South Side are problematic. It is not "simply" "hollowed out" but facing decades of structural racism & disinvestment (which they use to rationalize another investment deferred).
Screen clipping " The neighborhoods through which that extension would run simply are hollowed out, and while project advocates hope the line will"
The US population almost doubled since then. So yea, any modern movement with potential for success probably needs to “out scale” the civil rights movement.

100%. I Just hope the dem primary doesn’t develop to center the red baiting.
We all know the democrats in the primary will make the biggest deal of the “communist” accusations.

Dems always destroy their own coalition.
i do think those posts do show he's not going to be a fetterman 2.0, primarily because it's ideology and not like, contrarianism

that being said, i think red-baiting is gonna be bad
for the record and before you ask: if he can survive this, then he will show himself to be a talented politician indeed, in which case i’d say more power to him. that’s my position.
The number one concern for transit riders I know with regards to safety is Frequency.
Paul Valles: “Without a significant federal or state bailout — unlikely in today’s political climate — the only sustainable solution is to restore ridership. And that will not happen without restoring public safety.” www.illinoispolicy.org/vallas-how-t...
Vallas: How to improve Chicago’s billion-dollar transit crisis
Chicago Transit Authority ridership is still below pre-pandemic levels. Crime and a budget shortfall make matters worse, but there are cost-effective ways to make it safer.

A terrific AFP fact check uses reverse image searches to expose how a White House video took scenes from Florida, Texas, South Carolina and Nebraska and lied that they showed "Chicago is in chaos."

Sorry to harp on this, but another almost-unbelievably terrible unsigned editorial from WaPo. This one has a crucial "tell" that Murdoch's Fleet Street team is in full control.

The tell: Would any US writer refer to Trump as "the American," the way the WaPo does in passage below?
A Washington Post editorial which refers to Trump as "the American."

It feels like the political overton window has shifted far to the Right because the wealth class controls our media and owns our politicians.

Meanwhile, the vast, vast majority of people belong to what would now be portrayed as “the extreme Left.”

It’s a perception game and narrative control.

I think Ed Markey needs to retire and Ayanna Presley should run and block Seth Moulton from that seat. We need younger folks in office but it can't be Moulton. He would be a disaster for Massachusetts.

Quick rant

If you think a person can be illegal you're being manipulated

If you think the imaginary lines around the land you were born on make you better than anyone outside them, you're being manipulated

If you don't think every human deserves the life you want you're being manipulated
