but I wish it were that simple.
It's not just war around the globe, but current-gen policing in America, and basic "how do we treat each other".

Best way I can put it is how Patrick Skinner (@SkinnerPm) who is a cop but ex-USCG+CIA puts it on Twitter: "All of us matter, or none of us do."

“The reason that we are where we are is that we just didn’t care enough,” Raymond said. “The survival of these people, their lives, matter less than our economic and security relationships with the UAE, and that’s why these people are dying.”
“Individuals on the ground sent a message that reached us Monday morning that 1,200 were dead,” Nathaniel Raymond, the lab’s executive director, said. “By that evening, they said 10,000. By Tuesday, we couldn’t reach them anymore. We assume our ground contacts are dead.”

Nirvana releases its legendary "MTV Unplugged" concert album 31 years ago today — seven months after Cobain’s passing.

“In the moment, you weren’t aware you were taping what was Nirvana's last album," producer Alex Coletti said. "It was only in hindsight that it became what it became."

Cybersecurity salaries are dropping. Junior salaries are getting lower than other fields. There are not enough jobs for the graduates and layoffs. It’s not remotely a hot market and it’s costly to break into. It’s now something you begin only because you researched it well and love it.

Absolutely not unless they genuinely love it and are willing to commit to being an exceptional candidate in and out of university.

(This doesn’t apply to mid-senior transitions to cybersecurity-adjacent roles.)
All of this - I went from job title "Chief Cybersecurity Engineer" at a F500 company through "Sr. Systems Engineer" and now "Solutions Architect" over the last ten years, and a big part of that was trying to ensure I didn't end up stuck/pigeonholed as "the security guy".

I made a little project called Claudito (little Claude, in a sandbox) that runs Claude Code in a docker container, isolating it from your filesystem, your SSH keys, etc. Check it out: github.com/micahflee/cl...

As of today, both LA and Fairfax VA have deployed 34 person Rapid Assessment Teams to Jamaica to perform Urban Search and Rescue. Until July of this year, LA & Fairfax had agreements with USAID to provide this support to disasters overseas - they are the only USAR teams authorized to do so.

We've gotten so many of these pieces where a liberal engages in a good-faith effort to understand Trump voters. Every time, they discover that there's no deeper sympathetic reason they hold their views. They're just misinformed and hateful. My own efforts have found this too.

this is how it worked in USSR: your neighbors and your coworkers who had more access to state power than you did would routinely use it against you to settle personal matters. were you insufficiently polite to some jackass? now your children's school admission may be in jeopardy.or your spouse's job
How people think authoritarian governments work: they're hacking your phones, watching your every move with facial recognition cameras, men in black come and grab you at night.

How they actually work: someone like Laura Loomer tweets about you, men in black come and grab you in the night.
This can only possibly go well.
