This is a great thread that you should read.
But it also reminded me of a Hershel of Ostropol joke: Hershel and a friend get bread from a restaurant.
Hershel tears the bread in half, keeps the larger half, and gives his friend the smaller. His friend says, "that was very rude, what you just did."

Simple - one person cuts or breaks the cookie... and the second person gets to pick whichever side they want.

The idea is to take the person who's making the choices, and remove their ability to know which half they get - so if they make an unfair system, they might wind up getting shafted by it.

Look, if you can understand why a Black person might bristle at being told "you're so articulate", then you should be able to understand what's happening here.
