Don't tell me what to skeet.
Don't tell me what not to skeet.
Read my skeets before replying to them.
Reply to the skeet as written, not to the imaginary other person who wrote some other skeet in your mind that made you mad at someone who is not me.

White text in the orange box reads, “r/horrorlit, 10.15.25, 3 PM ET.” The Reddit logo is just above and to the right of this. A circular photo of Nick Mamatas sits centered at the top in the surrounding white box; it is circled in orange, with Nick’s name appearing arched above this in white and black text. A smaller white rectangle further down the image reads “links.ruadanbooks.com/120MAMA” in orange text. The Ruadán Books logo appears in the upper left of the graphic.

What's your totally ordinary opinion about books that you nonetheless find compelled to share when asked on a social media site such as this one for your most extreme/unhinged/hottest takes?

I'll go first: manga is popular among young people because manga often features young people.

The classics are pretty popular. You can go into any bookstore and buy Tolstoy, Milton, Shakespeare, Jane Austen--that wouldn't be true if people weren't buying them.

My TBR will always be larger than I can read, and that is OK because I supported the authors.

I have an AMA on r/horrorlit tomorrow. If you're a redditor, come see me. Mostly it is to promote 120 MURDERS. Would also be pleased to find a reason to talk about Kalivas! or anything else you'd like to ask me.

Way too much hay is made about the divide between litfic and genre.

People should read whatever interests them.

You should read reviews. And write them. And subscribe to publications that run them.

okay now that I've read some of these quote posts I must add my actual most normal opinion that everyone insists is extreme

Reading for fun doesn't make you a reader. And that's okay. The industry would go under if it had to live off people reading for the art of it.

The reason booktok has a reputation for liking poor books is because it skews to younger readers who are naturally going to have their minds blown by new literary experiences. It's the start of a journey for them.

(Publishing allowing booktok to dictate the industry norms is another issue)
