you are arguing points that I, specifically, am not making.

im saying it is hard crafting stories when you do not read stories. there will always be a disconnect if you do not appreciate the craft of world-building, separate from the enjoyment of fiction.

similarly, cutting out not a sub-genre but an entire broad literary genre will create a blind spot if your job is to write.

not a preference, it is a LITERAL skill issue lol. I dont know how else I can explain that even a casual perusing of a wide range of genres (while fiction is a genre there are a wide range of subgenres of fiction, for ex you constantly use horror as an example when it is a sub-genre of fiction)+

The great ones are not giving the best account of their topic, they are telling a story WITH their topic.

and when i say "write and speak" it is any form of memo, communications, leadership etc.

you have to bring people into your vision, paint a picture, tell a story, circle back and loop together. that comes from fiction reading.

I will say this because while I respect ppl's taste I can disagree without yucking folks yum.
If you have a career in WORDS? As in, you write and speak? A lack of fiction reading will create a HUGE blind spot.
Because you need to read stories to tell stories. Not "accounts of", STORIES

I think there is a disconnect with what people are referring to when discussing both fiction and non fiction.
I think some ppl think "well I dont read romance and children stories" forgetting not every memoir is fact lol

What the Twitter takeover did so effectively was fracture the way we get our news. If, for example, I want to get in-depth updates on Sudan I still check in with Twitter as that's where a lot of the biggest accounts are. There's no one-stop shop anymore.
