I agree, but thats not a fair assessment of non-fiction. There is also, "we're all doomed because," "here's show this started in the 17th century," and "did you know history is WAY worse than you ever imagined."

I told my lead yesterday that I REFUSE to earnestly engage in AI because of how people WANT to give away all the brain processing power we've built over these years and no thank you?? I like making my brain do brain things? Thinking is kinda cool? Fiction helps your brain think things!

Non fiction choices tend to align with something you want to know, and I doubt you're reading to have your own views challenged (instead of reading to confirm your biases.) Fiction can repackage something you know as truth and introduce new ways to approach it.

Fiction feeds your imagination, your whimsy and creativity.

Fiction requires that you employ critical thinking and inference skills, because you aren't reading a timeline of things that have happened and it removes your ability to "know" motives. Fiction helps you think.
