luigi mangione murdered a healthcare executive and opposed "wokeism." i don't know why people insist that killers need some coherent ideology. most people don't even have coherent wardrobes, let alone a coherent worldview.

The correct way to connect the authoritarian presence in LA and the Big Beautiful Bill is that the bill gives the government the resources to do this in dozens of cities at once. So if you don't like what's happening in LA, it's coming to your town if the bill passes.

Feel like as an uncle one of my duties now is to ask my nephews if they’re “one of those red pill kids” in a way that conveys my disdain.

I feel like this is easier to ignore in some places than others, but American citizens have been at war with “their” police forces for decades and I don’t know how to get people to understand that a lethal occupying force has never and will never keep us safe
LAPD is now joining the fray. They are firing rounds of less lethals

The woman who shouted "people will die" at Joni Ernst, India May, is a nurse and a librarian who first got involved in politics by going to a town hall about bills aiming to defund libraries.

Now she's running for state house.

Man, I warned people about this guy YEARS ago and everybody was like, whatever Spiers, you’re terminally online, internet brain poisoned, this cannot possibly be important
my takeaway from this feature is that in a functioning political system there would be televised congressional hearings over the fact that one of the most influential people in the white house is a total maniac www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Curtis Yarvin’s Plot Against America
The reactionary blogger’s call for a monarch to rule the country once seemed like a joke. Now the right is ready to bend the knee.

In the aftermath of sobbing at a funeral a few weeks ago I spent a lot of time thinking about the grief debt. Grieving we owe - to ourselves, I guess - from the pandemic that just keeps piling up, interest compounding in the worst ways.
I think that's why there's been such harsh backlash post-2020. It's almost as if people are embarrassed that they mourned so much.

I've long thought George Floyd's death both mattered in itself, for Black America, AND stood in for all our pandemic losses (which we STILL haven't fully acknowledged).

I want black women to leave their beautiful ass noses alone. And if you just MUST get a nose job, please find someone who specializes in ethnic rhinoplasty. Stop letting them white doctors give yall a whoville noses.

Black people cannot cure racism because it is not OUR problem. It is white people’s disease. Period. It’s contagious. Yes. But until yall decide to cure that cancer, we will continue this cyclical dehumanization of others

The first time I heard people complaining about what we call DEI now was in the mid 90's. The people complaining? White teenage cishet males. They were complaining that there was no point in them applying to join the RCMP because "they weren't hiring white men" and that "affirmative action",...1/4

Horrible crap buried in the 389 page behemoth Congress is trying to shove down our throats: blocking any state from regulating AI for the next decade. If you don’t want to bow down to tech bros in this way, get involved at fairshareusa.org www.techpolicy.press/us-house-com...

After an amendment challenging the moratorium language failed, it will advance with the rest of the legislative package.

Time to be mildly controversial because it's a personal identity thing:

The majority of us in Canada and the USA are not "middle class", we're living in a post-war rebranding lie. We're working class. Still. But we drive ourselves into debt trying to make it look like we're richer than we are. 1/5

I’m also really curious (sarcasm) about who is deeming these guys “vital” and “masculine” - not me or women I know. This whole culture feels like aggrieved men celebrating each other for a kind of masculinity women hate. Which hey if only they could just fawn over each other and leave us alone…
On one hand, this is a real subculture that has emerged amongst a certain subset of people on the right and we should talk about it. On the other hand, these people want to destroy modern American democracy as we've known it since WWII, and that should maybe be in the headline?

Ryan Coogler discusses his contract for #Sinners

“I’ve been in the industry long enough to know what kinds of deals are possible, and nothing about this deal is a new thing ... I asked for a few things for this project ... for what it was about and what it meant for my family"
