Prediction for this weekend - at least one "they're eating cats and dogs in Springfield" gag, even if it's as one of the scary names in the credits.

Friends fear he's up to date with the Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror episodes again. 🧵

#TreehouseOfHorror XXXV (2024) A pat Pacific Rim-y political satire, a riff on the Helen Mirren movie Winchester(!) and a gleeful mashup of Venom and The Wrong Trousers, complete with stop-motion. More amusing than funny, but these do feel like shorts rather than the usual skits.

Highlight: Denim!
The Day Of The Dead inspired title card for Treehouse Of Horror XXXV, reading "El Treehouse Del Horror XXXV" A political analyst reporting on an electoral college-style "Monster Attack" map showing where the red and blue kaijus have detroyed. Mr Burns in his nightgown, startled by the disfigured ghost of Homer Marge being menaced by a stop-motion pair of jeans with a Venom-style face, including eyes and big teeth, on the crotch area.

#TreehouseOfHorror Presents Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes (2024) An original recipe TOH episode, complete with Illustrated Man framing device. Jessica Conrad writes all three Bradbury spoofs and it's a much funnier script than XXXV. The fat wolf gag got me good.

Highlight: Marionettes, Inc
The Simpsons family entering R. Bradbury's Traveling Night Circus Bart in a coonskin cap shooting at cans with the labels Driver's Choice Beer, Canned Cigarettes, and Sweetened Condensed Margarine Superintendent Chalmers unboxing an identical robot replica of himself The Simpsons family sat in a retrofuturistic home, watching TV, with Homer wearing a fireman's uniform, in a parody of Fahrenheit 451

NANCY PELOSI: We must find the next generation of Democratic leadership. Young, charismatic and exciting candidates who can energize the party. People that voters love because they're not 80 years old and sold out to big capital.

CHUCK SCHUMER (behind sniper rifle): Found one

PELOSI: Take the shot

Never a tired true-crime drama or tired gritty cop show or tired rich-people-are-pricks show with some people, is it? Only romcoms. Looking forward to catching up with this!

The year is 2040. A deceased Jeff Bridges brought to life via AI stars this summer in "Tron: Requiem" scored by The Prodigy. Nobody sees it.

You reckon Patrick Wilson ever looks in the mirror and thinks “I know him! What’s his name?”

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

Tonight's film: Good Boy! Goddamn, went into this expecting a gimmicky shoulda-been-a-short jumpscarefest and it absolutely done me. A properly well made, well acted, immaculately scored(!) horror movie about the stuff that really scares me, that just happens to take place from a dog's POV. 14/10.
Good Boy - Official Trailer (2025) Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, Larry Fessenden

Genuinely sad news. But what an artist he was.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

I loved ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Yes it speaks to this exact political moment but also it's thrilling and weird and hilarious. We need all that.

Asking ChatGPT is like asking Pinky if he's pondering what you're pondering. The fact he is a lab rat who can form coherent sentences is impressive, but he's still going to be fucking wrong.

Actual scenes from me trying to assemble a Halloween-themed 1% Club round for Thursday's spooky gameshow pub quiz.
An edited screenshot of a 1% Club question with the name changed to "DRACULA the zoo keeper's favourite photo of the one with him and his 6 cows, 3 spiders, 4 ostriches, 5 elephants and his giant tortoise all together. How many legs are in the photo?" Also added pumpkin and ghost emojis for lols.

Let's be honest, this is way better than a bunch of stupid Guy Fawkes masks.

(This question definitely doesn't work for exactly the reason you say, but the Dracula question I've used is just as tenuous in swapping a name in.)
markharrison.bsky.social
Are you wondering whether you should count Dracula? Cos there's a clue in his name...

Just finished the rest of it and this isn't the silliest or even the second silliest round. Gonna keep picking at questions all week cos I'm a maniac, but also I'm determined this will either be the best thing I've ever done or an absolute FIASCO, and nothing in between. Maybe both if we're lucky.

i am so ready for quantum to be the next dumb buzzword the tech industry forces everyone to pretend to care about. "how are you incorporating quantum into your daily work?" i'm not but it's so refreshing you asked me a new and different stupid question

The Jolly Life Of Chuck would just be the marketing for The Life Of Chuck, as opposed to the film.
markharrison.bsky.social
This suggests similar direct-to-Asda takeoffs of other 2025 Stephen King-based movies. Make The Jolly Long Walk, you cowards!
The DVD cover for the horror movie The Jolly Monkey, which features a monkey with cymbals covered in streaks of blood, a woman hiding under her bed, and the tagline "You can't hide", certificate 15

Eyeballing Jack Reacher right now. Big guy, obviously, but I don't think he sees me coming. As a henchman, this is the sort of moment that makes or breaks your career. I think I should go for it.
