This war wouldn't have occurred if Ukraine still had their nukes.

Everyone worries about russia's nukes regardless of doubt over their maintenance levels.

You could argue russia would have attacked Ukraine back then in 1994-95, but that this war would have occurred as it did - no.

Spoken by someone who doesn't know, or ignores as it doesn't fit their narrative, the difference between tactical and strategic nuclear weapons.

Who ignores the value of nuclear fissile materials.

No one is suggesting they could have used the strategic nukes as-is, that is a straw man argument.

So what you are saying is you believe Ukrainian engineers (who basically ran the Soviet space program and have now invented modern drone warfare) are far more stupid and unable to learn or innovate than North Korean or Pakistani engineers?

russians attacked a UN humanitarian convoy in Kherson region this morning.

Four UNHCR trucks came under drone and artillery fire-one burned, another was badly damaged, and two managed to escape unharmed.

Not being able to maintain them isn't the same thing as deliberately destroying them.

I mean, russia also had a post soviet economic crisis - but the US food aid to them wasn't made contingent on weapons destruction and de-nuclearisation (sadly).

Having given up strategic arms & having no long range ability to threaten Russia, Ukraine was subsequently rewarded with invasion & concern.

And is ofc why Ukraine should believe us when we say we "have always been ready to negotiate".

OTD in 2002 🇺🇦 began decommissioning its nuclear capable Tu-22 strategic bombers & Kh-22 cruise missiles, as per the Budapest memo.

30 bombers & 230 missiles were destroyed over 2 & half years in exchange for promise 🇷🇺 would never invade.

A massive Russian assault with 16 armored vehicles was repelled near Dobropillia. Units from Azov (1st NG Corps), Air Assault Forces, and Unmanned Systems Forces took part. Result: 9 IFVs, 4 APCs, 3 tanks, and 3 motorcycles destroyed. Confirmed losses: 78 troops.

since there's reports on social media of money hitting accounts worth reiterating that this is illegal and unconstitutional as shit, it's not a close question, and while I don't expect anyone on H/SASC or H/SAC will do anything, anyone performing this 'reprogramming' should face criminal penalties

It's also worth reiterating that absent this reprogramming authority being written into law it would be not just illegal but flatly unconstitutional for DoD to expend money in any fashion not explicitly specified (by both type/use and quantity) by Congress in an appropriations bill

About 240 T-90Ms/year right now including refurbs and production.

Russia is planning new production up to maybe 400/year of T-90M in ~2 years.
