Paint on streets is *not* infrastructure.
brenttoderian.bsky.social
Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

The U already has a food bank. It's open twice a month and anecdotally, cannot come close to meeting the demand.

Shelley Madore just said a food bank and budgeting lessons is her approach to the food desert around the U 😭😭😭😭

So sorry for your loss.

If you don’t frequently see families with kids traveling to destinations by bike, your bike network isn’t safe enough (&/or your zoning forces sprawl & car dependency).

Hard to find a large American city that hasn't struggled with the same intractable debate over whether to continue flushing piles of money on police horses.
chicagotribune.com
From the Editorial Board:

As Mayor Brandon Johnson prepares to give his budget address Thursday, one idea should get tossed aside: eliminating Chicago’s mounted police unit.
Editorial: Chicago budget should not cut mounted police nor sell off their horses
Is Chicago really going to sell off the horse named for Officer Ella French?

Council funding things that the mayor chooses not to implement is a theme of the strong mayor era.
dbrauer.net
If I’m reading Kyle right, Frey admits failing to issue 100 housing vouchers *that are funded this year because he wants to kill the program next year.* (This is not Stable Schools, but for single folks.) This is unallotment Trump-style, especially since county/MPHA are in.
Friction point: In August, to remedy Stable Homes Stable Schools' $3.2 million projected shortfall, Frey proposed canceling another promising anti-homelessness initiative to provide 100
emergency housing vouchers for chronically unsheltered individuals and families. • Many City Council members believe this is needed just as urgently, and the council earmarked the funding last year to revive the pandemic-era program "that had incredibly successful outcomes at long-term housing stability," Ward 2 representative Robin Wonsley
wrote in a newsletter. Yes, but: No vouchers have been issued yet, so Frey administration officials decided it would be irresponsible to begin a new anti-homelessness initiative - promising though it may be - with
an existing program short on funds.

I hope the new owner can keep the tulip tradition alive (even if at a smaller scale)!

L&D twins!

I started as a classroom teacher but burned out real fast (after 5 years). Working year-round is an easy "downside" to take on with the upside being actual work life balance and a livable wage year-round.

True facts: I took on my first consulting contract to pay for our @bunchbike.com .

Worth it!

I launched my own consulting business in January & have been SO pleasantly surprised to get 3 contracts in my first year! 🥳

I'm way too busy to take on anything else right now, but if you see an opportunity for us to work together in 2026, please reach out.

Our 7yo every time there’s a day off school that @nissamitchell.com and I have to work: “but why don’t you just get the same days off that we do?“

If only!

Solidarity with those who don’t have enough vacation time, money for drop in child care, or a support net to keep up with all these school breaks

We are 7 weeks into the school year and MPS has had a total of 3 weeks where kids were in session all 5 days

If you don’t have kids, aren’t a teacher, and/or didn’t go to school here, you might not know what “MEA weekend” refers to—and Tim Harlow isn’t about to enlighten you.

I'm proud to have the broadest coalition of support from elected officials, community members, and organizations, of any candidate in this race. We deserve
a Mayor that's ready to collaborate, work across differences, and deliver for residents of Minneapolis.

Fun fact: humans aren’t made of sugar and we don’t melt in the rain.

If you show your kids how to dress for the weather, they learn quickly and may even enjoy it!

My 7yo on our rainy walk this AM: “the leaves look so pretty falling from the trees w/ the rain drops.”
