This mornings commute was brutal. Got held up by 20 seconds when I was trying to decide whether or not to stop and take a picture of all the drivers stuck on the circ. Cole Harbour to Kings took almost 31 minutes instead of the normal 30 minutes.

Looks like a collision or incident on the middle of the Macdonald

Looks like it's causing slowdowns in both directions.

I'd take the MacKay if I were you. I'm not. But If I were...

Just kidding, the digital and paper issue will both be available tomorrow morning.

In it, @acbzw.bsky.social writes about the provincial overreach in city planning.

On the back @landofsticks.bsky.social digs into overtime and some good news crime prevention and the new CARE team.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Setting speed limits with the 85th-percentile is ass backwards... For years, I've been teaching my students about a context-based approach using a grid of Movement vs. Place that is popular in other (much safer) countries.

It is great to see it getting some love in the literature...
A context-sensitive roadway classification framework for speed limit setting in the US
In the US, speed limit setting (SLS) procedures have historically relied on driver-behavior-based methods, such as the 85th percentile speed, which ar…

Simple way to avoid car companies bricking your vehicle by installing a forced software update: make sure your vehicle is a bicycle.

The future is great, huh?

White people who have spent decades thinking “Born in the USA” is patriotic and “Every Breath You Take” is a great wedding song are suddenly very concerned about not being able to understand lyrics to some songs at the Super Bowl halftime show.

Tbh I think for people the summer has been incredibly disjointed. From a media perspective in 2023 it was always the same folks in the press box week in week out. This year we're a lot more inconsistent in our attendance and I get the sense that's pretty common with everyone compared to 2023
