This morning when I learned it snowed, I decided to go to Miners Marsh in Kentville. It was lovely with all the snow-covered trees and brush. It also made for nice background for these female and male cardinals. #birds #NovaScotia #wildlife

I am tired of the doomerism on the left. Fight and be hopeful and optimistic about what can be done.
Since people find being hopeful and optimistic so cringe these days, let me remind you once again that there isn’t a single liberation movement in the world that wasn’t built on hope and optimism.

Why the Halifax Examiner published a month-long series on 'AI' - Halifax Examiner
Countering all this takes independent and scrappy news publications that remain true to the values of holding the powerful to account.

Evergreen post.
Also if you’re unwilling to be confrontational with powerful people you just should not be a journalist. You aren’t cut out for it.

My daughter the funeral director has made plans for my remains (when the time comes). An urn of my ashes will be in an indoor niche next to another niche where her and her boyfriend’s remains will be (eventually).

“You’ll be next door but will have your own space!” she told me.

Here's the Halifax Examiner's AI policy.
November 26, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Giving money to people IS politically palatable. It depends on who's receiving the money. Some white grifter with big talk and ideas gets money!

Everyday people who need food and shelter? No money for you! Giving everyday people money would have huge immediate, generational, and societal impacts.
People need food. Market won’t provide it. The government can. The government should.
People needing food does not necessarily imply government run grocery stores. Just as it does not imply government owned bakeries or millers or wheat fields.

Direct cash transfers are strong as a policy but not politically palatable.
