Hi New Followers 👋

You've made a wise choice. 👍

As well as posting silliness and hope for a better world I also write books (full of silliness and hope for a better world). Start with this free book of shorts written to introduce you to the #steampunk world of Hammersmyth.

mybook.to/hammersmyth2
Book Cover for The Hammersmith Tales (spelt with a y instead of an i). A beige background with shadowy images of cogs and clock faces. In the bottom right corner sits a grey cat wearing brass goggles and a green scarf. H elooks out at us with a lopsided grin. His tail is segmented with metal joints and his eyes have mechanical irises. The book's title is across the top in red and gold. Written in white below it says "A collection of steampunk shorts from the author of", then in yellow/gold "Dexter & Sinister Detecting Agents." Below that is the author's name in white, Keith W Dickinson.

I was reminded recently of the fun fact that the Cadbury's Caramel bunny (voted 3rd sexiest cartoon character of all time) was voiced by Miriam Margolyes (drawing on her experience making adult audio tapes for sex shops)

Mr England is setting the tone here for Europe which is very much What The Actual Fuck. The only thing impressive about this is that it's not actually the worst that Europe has to offer.

This was written in 1978.

Sound familiar?
The post-totalitarian system touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed; the lack of free expression becomes the highest form of freedom; farcical elections become the highest form of democracy; banning independent thought becomes the most scientific of world views; military occupation becomes fraternal assistance. Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything. It falsifies the past. It falsifies the present, and it falsifies the future. It falsifies statistics. It pretends not to possess an omnipotent and unprincipled police apparatus. It pretends to respect human rights. It pretends to persecute no one. It pretends to fear nothing. It pretends to pretend nothing.

I'm heading down to Beverley in a couple of weeks to talk to the Humber SFF group about my books. If you're in the area & like big fantasy stories about dragons, murder, & characters kicking against the system, then please come along.

Come on, where is a company like MARVEL supposed to find human artists who can do superheroes on a tight turnaround?

Guess I’m not watching WonderMan.

Marvel employees were asked whether the 'WONDER MAN' poster for the in-universe movie was created using Al.
"Its artwork made by artists but touched up by Al," which was clarified with "so, really Al-assisted Photoshop work," and the response was "yes."

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Well, that's me off to Oslo in November. No idea what I'll do there except I've got a ticket for the ballet on the last night. I'll probably just wander about a bit lost, eat some food, and take lots of photos of things the locals find boring but which I think are fascinating coz they're foreign. 😋

That's the plan (maybe). I need a couple of days away. Also thinking about Copenhagen. It'll be one or the other.

It is not too late, on this, #BookshopDay, to wander into your local bookshop (be it chain or otherwise) and order a copy of A Short History of the Future: 42 retro themed #sci-fi short stories, including some award winnners. From @northodoxpress.bsky.social, promoting Northern writers.

As much to fly to Oslo and back as it is to get the train to Carlisle. FFS.
