New goal is 80k. Maybe by Halloween?

Beautiful at sunrise and sunset, sure.
Right now, though, it was just a dark building with nowhere to hide.
“Heather?” I called, even though there was no way she was here.
I walked down the center aisle, my boots clicking on the tile. I reached the stage and turned around—and nearly leaped out of my own skin.
Heather sat in the foremost pew, legs crossed and head angled back to watch me. She wore the same jeans and shirt she’d had on earlier in the night, although now they had a number of new dark stains. Her straight black hair was clumped in places, as if it, too, had gone through the mud.
Or an awful lot of blood.
As if I’d been unsure about the origins of all those stains, Heather lifted a hand toward me and dried blood clearly visible around and under her fingernails. She waved.

You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.
