Not actually a fan of coffee but this has been my name for over quarter of a century, so why change it now? Crypto and Finance Bros, AI evangelists, heavily pro/anti-religion, and "just-asking-questions" types all need not apply.

It's what you like that makes you interesting, not talking about what you don't like. - Taliesin Jaffe, The Wednesday Club

I’ve had this as the header text on my Tumblr for ages, I think I need to bring it here too. As much as there’s a lot to hate right now, sharing joys builds more community!

EVERY BOOK BANNED FROM THE READING BOWL HAS BEEN RESTORED!!!!!

The kids will be able to read and compete over all 20 books. Raising the issue made a difference. Teen advocates made a difference.

Award-winning pain researcher here. This is not something that can be done. Hope this helps.

“In nursing homes, neonatal units, and ICU wards, researchers are racing to turn pain—medicine’s most subjective vital sign—into something a camera or sensor can score as reliably as blood pressure.”
AI is changing how we quantify pain
Artificial intelligence is helping health-care providers better assess their patients’ discomfort.

No, not gonna work. Especially with folks with chronic pain, but regardless of that plenty of people feel pain differently. The AI will pick up on different things instead, like the one that recognises venereal diseases only if the photo includes the measuring devices used on medical reference pics.

I don't believe so, I think they only add in the people when you click them, so if they expand you don't get those extra folks - not that I think I've clicked one anyway.

In the Press Briefing for the launch of Roald Dahl’s Guide to Railway Safety is a prepared answer about the story about the naval captain.

Clearly it was anticipated this would be seen to be in poor taste.

The picture on the page about sticking your head out the window, that’s fine!
Never never never stick your head out of the window of a moving train DO NOT THROW ANYTHING OUT
OF THE WINDOWS - I know a true story about this. A friend of mine, when he was a little boy, was travelling in a train with his father who was a captain in the navy. The little boy wanted desperately to have a pee, but there were no corridors on the train. He told his father that he had to go. He simply couldn't wait.

"My boy," said the naval captain father, "a sailor is never at a loss!" Whereupon he reached for his naval cap and said, "Do it in that."

The boy did as he was told. The father then flung the contents of the hat out of the open carriage window. The train at that moment happened to be rushing through a small country station and the boy, looking out, saw the stuff hit a porter smack in the face. 05. Don't you think the story about the naval captain is in rather poor taste?

A5. No, it's entirely characteristic of Roald Dahl. What's more, it went down very well with both children and their parents when we researched the effectiveness of the text. In fact the whole text proved very effective in getting across the safety messages.

Has there been some sneaky way to force-add yourself to someone's follow lists? Seems unlikely, it would be such a waste for that tech to have been used for such trivial causes as these, & yet... Weird.

I am confusion this morning...

Twice in the last few hours I've found myself seeing re/posts from people I'm "following" yet have no knowledge of having done so - and I don't mean seeing someone who's quiet pop up unexpectedly, I mean "they post hourly or more, yet I remember none of them" ❓

I like the split level storage in the centre console, so you can keep lunch and snacks properly separated.

A purple arrow marks the path from the entrance to the rightmost wall of vendor booths, terminating at booth 90. It is the fifth booth on the right down the rightmost aisle.

I just realized I don’t like the phrase “as far as I knew” because it implies how much you actually don’t know. I’m not going to stop using it, but. I don’t like it as much anymore.

This is huge news!
UBC has developed an enzyme that can convert donor organs to type O, making them universal.
Normally a using organs of the wrong blood type causes the recipient's immune system to attack the organ, leading to failure.

a rare bit of good news, it looks like sewing patterns will survive.

“There will always be paper patterns as long as I’m around,” (new head) says. "

When Disney secured the Indiana Jones Adventure ride license from Lucasfilm, they didn’t have permission to use Harrison Ford’s likeness for the poster art. Drew Struzan called Harrison Ford and directly asked him. Ford permitted Struzan because he inherently trusted him.
Page 52 of “Poster Art of the Disney Parks.”

Two poster concepts for the Indiana Jones Adventure ride.

"When Disney licensed Lucasfilm for the Indiana Jones ride, it did not secure the rights to Harrison Ford's likeness. So, when it came to the poster, my take on it was, Gee, if I painted Indiana Jones and don't put Harrison's likeness on it, I'll look like a fool; like I couldn't do it. So I got his phone number and called him up to ask for his permission. He had just the gentlest Indy voice you ever heard. I told him the situation and his response was,
'If you're painting it then you go right ahead.’”
—Drew Struzan, poster artist
