ICYMI: Last 4th of July, I enjoyed a Mariners game with local baseball writer John Trupin. We talked about baseball, affordability, and freedom. It’s a great October to be a scrappy upstart in Seattle. #thisisyourcity #mariners #humpy #katiewilson #seattle

Welcome to Bluesky. Here is your copy of the Antifa Manual and MLB Extra Innings for some reason.
Absolutely crushing so far, but having been at dozens of Blue Jays invasions of Seattle, mercifully weak showing from the Mariners rivals to the south
There was some concern of Toronto fans infiltrating the crowd in Seattle this week. I’ve never heard it quieter during Blue Jays success at a Mariners game.

The world has gotten to know Eduard Bazardo in these playoffs. But the Mariners’ fiery Venezuelan reliever wasn’t always this guy.

@ajeto.bsky.social is back to tell you how Seattle found its stopper. www.lookoutlanding.com/mlb-postseas...
Eduard Bazardo Has Been a Life Raft
The unheralded Venezuelan mixed up his pitch mix midseason and has become invaluable for the Seattle Mariners.

Josh Naylor picked up a bizarre hit in ALCS Game 2 on a pitch way up and away. It's an extreme example of a pitch he's had success on in 2025.

Like most things with Josh Naylor, I'm not really sure how or why.

This is a fabulous article on a trend I love. Players being healthier means more everyday players. More being able to count on a team's best efforts when you go to the ballpark. Fewer limp-hitting backstops, better competition.
Wrote about how Cal Raleigh is up to 739 PA this season & how top catchers in general just seemed to play more often after a job-sharing trend - and how maybe we should listen to all the catchers telling us that receiving on one knee saves their legs.

This big change is keeping catchers like Raleigh fresh for October
Among the many, many, many impressive things about Cal Raleigh's 60-homer 2025 is something a lot more mundane, but extremely important: He showed up every day. Ralegh played in 159 games. He took 705...

One of the craziest stories I've seen in a long time. If you think Trump and his administration are extreme and depraved, just wait until you learn about the young guns who are positioning themselves to take over the reigns in the next few decades

The Mariners are in a better position right now than at any point in their history. How did we get here? And what happens now that they're coming home?

I see. No, I spoke unclearly. I knew Babe Ruth's nicknames, and given his fame, many players are nicknamed in reference to him and his many flowery nicknames. I was surprised to find nobody had made the "Sultan of *Squat*" reference already, and pleased to realize I could hopefully get it started.
Are they going to qualifying offer him at this point?
Thank you for listening and holding up a newspaper with today's date on it while doing so, haha.
Indeed, that is the inspiration for why I called Raleigh the "Sultan of Squat" in my article. The reference of course is to Ruth, given Raleigh's 60 homers, as well as his famous backside, and the simple fact that he squats to catch.

I thought he was fabulous in the playoffs last year. This has been distinctly disappointing following how good Amin+Waino was! Has he just kinda absorbed Smoltz's combo disinterest and presumption everyone is as brand new as him?
Brandon Nimmo thinks that looks burnt
He is risking being executed by his pitchers, that's for sure
So uh... do they do Gold Glove voting before the end of the season too
Max Scherzer doesn't need extra incentive, but if he wants to improve his chances of winning, he may need to incapacitate his manager
In the 4 playoff games John Schneider has managed the Blue Jays against the Mariners between 2022 and 2025, he's pulled his starter mid-inning each time.

The numbers from the relievers to complete those half innings:

9 TBF, 2 wild pitches, 2 home runs, 4 hits, and 8(!!!) runs allowed.

Now is not the time to reelect a mayor who refuses to take responsibility for the failures of his administration. We have lost shelter beds every year of the mayor’s term, and more people are sleeping outside as a result. We are a national outlier on unsheltered homelessness.
