One thing I'm watching for on Trey Yesavage tonight: loud contact.

While the sample is small, he gave up some of the loudest contact in the game. Of 642 pitchers with 50 batters faced (reg+post), he was ... 641st in hard-hit rate. Not a list of names you want to be on.

I feel like this looks quite prescient. Mariners pitchers attacked the zone, Blue Jays were super aggressive, contact was OK but not great and everything found a glove. Could not have drawn up a better night for the staff.

If there was ever a night for the Mariners to get a "lucky" pitching performance, it was last night. Tremendous work.

A table showing wOBA vs xwOBA for team pitching performances in the 2025 postseason. The Mariners pitchers allowed a .317 xwOBA last night; they allowed a .156 true wOBA. That -.161 difference is the largest in the postseason this year, and one of the 10 largest differences in the postseason since 2016.
