Erika works 8 hours a day harvesting raspberries on CAs Central Coast. She shares, "I must be very careful to only harvest the ripe fruit. This careful selection means that only the best quality berries are packed and shipped to the supermarkets for you to eat." #WeFeedYou

All I have to say about white people worried that protesting this weekend won’t be safe: this is the safest it will be until this problem is handled. Gather thine gonads and get your ass out there (appropriate exceptions aside ofc)

Senate is back in session today.

1/ So a quick 🧵on where things are at on the shutdown.

You get a lot of propaganda and spin thrown at you, so I want to give you the real, behind-the-scenes tea.

Saturday is going to be huge, boisterous and joyful: “It doesn’t matter if you’ve never protested before. This is a place for you if you believe we don’t do kings in this country.” - @ezralevin.bsky.social to @maddow.msnbc.com

Use these to help you meet up, park, etc. Look for your marshalls in bright yellow vests when you get to the section you choose. Spread out!

White people could totally and completely dismantle racism if they wanted to. In fact, research suggests this would require a mere 3.5% of white people.

Problem is, white ppl don’t comprehend how many other white ppl there are—you folks are upwards of 75% of the voting population.

Work together‼️

Social scientists theorize that approx 3.5% of a society’s population—cooperating toward one goal—is required to enact change.

212,000,000 white Americans

3.5% of 212 million = 7,420,000

Thus, over 7 MILLION white Americans must organize to undo Project 2025 and, one day, fix racism.

Good luck‼️🇺🇸

So look, I’m a 1/2-white Black man who (like all Black men) have had more police encounters than I can count. Please hear this:

IF you’re white and are NOT fully confident you’d be ready, willing, and lowkey eager to jump between police and—not me, but ✨any✨ Black stranger

THEN you’re NOT my ally.

Stories of failed arrests due to community response are inspiring. There's been great legal work to free people, too. But this stuff is mostly a brief flash of unmarked cars, and then somebody's gone. Over and over again. No matter how many people are eager to help and want better than this.

I frequently say you don't need to protest. You don't! There are a thousand other ways to push back on fascism if protesting doesn't feel comfortable or safe for you!

But if you CAN go, this 10/18 #NoKings thing is really a key protest to participate in. Be part of it, friends.

A solemn Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Remember, Peoples' Day NOT People's Day
•"People's" is the possessive of the word people—the plural of person
•"Peoples'" is the possessive of the word peoples—used to refer to groups of people

"Indigenous Peoples' Day" celebrates the many Indigenous Groups❤️

The idea that there are activists and citizens who attend protests because it’s what they believe in is completely foreign to them. If it isn’t a personal grift, they don’t understand the motivation.

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

"Maria" is rolling up raisins under the hot Madera sun. To earn $70, she has to roll 1,000 sheets! Each row has around 250 sheet. It's hard grueling work walking on the burning sand for hours rolling one sheet after another. #WeFeedYou

Are you ready for the largest peaceful protest in modern US history? In five days, millions of Americans will stand up and speak out on a massive scale to reject Trump’s authoritarianism and show the world what democracy looks like. You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

This is correct, in part - as the grim, military historian in me feels the need to note - it is psychologically much harder to get soldiers to open fire on people they view as 'respectable.'

And I dread, with grim increasingly certainty, that we are headed to a point where that matters.

protests against this government should include white Boomer grandmothers who meet for pilates class, get a pitcher of mimosas & walk together to the public space

we need people in the street who think everyone can talk their way out of a speeding ticket, they're key to winning
