The only logical conclusion here is that she doesn't support our sanctuary policies in the first place.

Could a journalist please follow up on this and ask Elizabeth Shaffer directly: do you support our current separation ordinance or do you think MPD should assist ICE with deporting residents?

Ok Liz, you got me here: what the honest fuck do you believe

Do you agree with how the city handled its presence at the federal drug investigation on Lake Street in June, and how can Minneapolis improve its response in future incidents?
Yes. MPD has a responsibility to ensure the overall public order and safety of protestors, law enforcement officers, residents, and nearby businesses.
Ideally in this situation, the communication between law enforcement agencies and residents could have been better to help avoid some of the inaccurate information on social media.

Did the city violate its sanctuary policy during the June Lake
Street raid?
Yes

Being the “adult in the room” means lying to voters that you’ll be a budget magician and somehow cut a ton but then once you’re in office, you realize that’s not plausible, and then you blame your colleagues.

The thing with candidates like these: they never really say what we should cut. They just insist we have to. All our budget stuff is public information. It’s not hard to come up with a couple million in cuts. But if you’re talking $300 million in cuts, that’s massive.

Things that make you go “hmmmm:” Liz Shaffer thinks the city should scale back its budget without cutting services…almost like she has no plan here at all
In 2022, Federal, State and Local grants totaled nearly $500 million. Now in 2025, these same sources of revenue will drop 60%, to under $200 million - a $300 million annual shortfall in only three years. We will not be able to easily make up $300 million of lost revenue without looking for ways to scale back our city budget. We will also need to work with our state and county funding partners to fulfill their obligations, as well as work together to protest federal cuts.

Should the city cut services as one way to address loss of federal funds and dwindling downtown tax base?
No

- released Palestinian prisoner
Palestinian prisoner Shadi Abu Seed has given a harrowing account of life inside an Israeli prison after his release as part of the ceasefire deal.

“I went hungry for the past two years. I swear to God, they didn’t feed us. They kept us naked. They beat us while we were naked day and night. We were tortured,” Abu Seed said.

“Until our last day in Israeli prison, they cut us and hit us and abused us. We endured every kind of torture, emotional and physical.

“We couldn’t even sleep. They threatened us with our children. They told me they killed my children. They told us that Gaza was destroyed. I arrived here and found that everything was gone. It looked like the end of the world. Everything is different.”

This election is so important that I've actually committed to knocking doors for the first time in a decade. Back in 2016, I knocked thousands of doors as an organizer in rural Iowa and burned out on it so hard that I never ever wanted to do it again. But here I am.

Minneapolis deserves a champion for working people.

This is our opportunity to build a city where every single resident can thrive. I can’t wait to cast my ballot for my friend and colleague, Omar Fateh, as my first choice for mayor by November 4th, and I hope you will join me.

The moderates of this city really want to deliver a Republican legislature next year. And corporate democrats are giving them the lay up.

It won’t hurt progressives. But it will hurt the top of the ticket next year.

The council member is totally right. If the downtown council, Mayor Frey and his allies don’t condemn this anti-Minneapolis propaganda, they’re teeing up Republicans to run statewide on this garbage next year. They’re willing to risk a GOP governor or leg to make sure their stooge remains mayor.

Okay somewhat decent news.
I actually only owe 3.3k in total and they said they're going to let the courts know I've made payments and we will reach on some kind of payment plan.
So still urgent but slightly less urgent

9/ That’s right — Jacob Frey wanted a “black friend” to run cover for him. Davis refused; the mayor acted like Davis owed him something for appointing him to the committee, in a cynically transactional calculation that twisted Davis’s volunteer public service into political fealty.

8/ The part the public DOESN’T know is that in the firestorm after Locke’s killing, Frey called Davis, then on vacation in Mexico. Davis — fully expecting Frey to discuss how to better control MPD — instead found the mayor pleading with him to fly home & stand with Frey at a news conference.
