Thank you to everyone who’s supported us.

And a special thank you to Illinois elected officials — including many of my opponents — who have condemned this political prosecution by the Trump administration:

this is blood libel gutter racism of the kind that you only encounter if you or your staff are spending a lot of time in online spaces that are avowedly white supremacist
Speaking at the Univ of Mississippi in Oxford, Vice President JD Vance claimed that when settlers arrived in the New World, they “found widespread child sacrifice,” adding that “Christian civilization ended the practice.”

Thousands packed Ole Miss’ pavilion as Vice President JD Vance took unscripted questions on faith, policy and Trump-era politics.

Interesting paper! When you ask people about the most important issue "facing the country," they often say immigration. But when you ask them about issues facing them personally, it doesn't crack the top 10.

This indicates that voters are reacting to media narratives, not their own experience.

When I explain that boycotting an election over an issue has never once forced a politician to embrace that issue, I'm not "scolding people to vote." I'm explaining reality.

Feel free to sit on your ass! Just don't pretend that your lazy apathy is somehow going to advance your agenda.

why doesn’t stuff like this ever happen in my back yard
@darthbluesky.bsky.social Thank goodness you're here, I need your advice. My neighbor, Max, is continually violating our privacy and spying on us in our backyard. I finally caught him in the act. How do I approach this situation?

“The virtual disappearance of the House for most of three months...is looking more and more essential to the authoritarian project of a movement that pleaded for a “red Caesar” to crush “woke” liberalism with unchecked executive power.””
The Founders knew Congress - especially the House - was the backbone of U.S. democracy. It should be a huge story that Mike Johnson, serving Trump, has all but shut it down

Ok, look: everyone lies. To tell a lie is a completely human thing. There are tons of different lies people tell and we all just sort of accept it and move through the world. Most of those lies are social lubricants.

Right-wing lies, however--from Elon to Mike Johnson--purely psychotic.
I'm torn. I hate the Dodgers because of what they've done to baseball, but I feel weird rooting for the Blue Jays.

I almost think the Dodgers need to win to demonstrate how completely corrupt MLB is, but I hate it.

Border Patrol has a rancid culture, and a dark history

This is actually kind of outstanding. It should embarrass everyone on the right once they get in to discovery and the trial.

The campaign to label art "too woke" or "too liberal" has dark historical echoes. In my op-ed, I draw the parallel to Nazi Germany's "Degenerate Art" exhibitions and the Soviet doctrine of "Socialist Realism." When a government dictates what art is acceptable, we are on a dangerous path.

I think my favorite thing about "every city reveals its inner character" era of ice protests is that people keep saying portland is weird or cute or nice or silly when one of the most common chants at the ice building is people looking up at feds on the roof and yelling "jump! jump! jump!" in unison
Portland resists with whimsical improv theater, Chicago resists by screaming at weird jagoffs that don’t belong in the neighborhood. Every city brings its own strengths to the fight
The energy we need is this suburban dad standing out in the street -- barefoot with Blackhawks pajama pants on -- screaming at the masked goons to get the fuck out of their neighborhood.

Another example of Big Tech’s favourite line, “Move fast and break things.” The things they’re ok breaking evidently include airplanes in flight full of people.

A sane system would be regulating all the stupid, dangerous stuff like this. But Big Tech says that’s “anti-future,” right?
A Palo Alto company has launched more than 4,000 of its "smart" balloons. Looks like one of them smashed into a United 737.

Everyone was OK, but the pilot did tell passengers, “The aircraft has collided with an object and a window in the cockpit has shattered"

The old rulebook is gone. It's not coming back and we all need to accept that. The DOJ is weaponized. the GOP is rigging elections. Trump is literally bulldozing the White House.

Democrats need to operate under this new reality, fight hard, and play by the same rules.

Consider how few anecdotes it took for the media to declare a Free Speech on Campus crisis.

Every day we get more evidence that the Republican Party is teeming with white supremacists yet elite institutions refuse to frame this as a crisis that needs the nation’s attention.

Politics is the art of making people care. Effective movements *shift the polls* by framing issues as moral questions.

If the fascists can make people care about conspiracy theories like QAnon, we can make people care about freedom and democracy.

(George Lakoff wrote several books on this.)
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something
I LOVE A Christmas Carol and usually watch a couple iterations of it every year.

This will be utter dreck and an insult to Dickens.
