The survey is available via the MTS web site and through a QR_code link and is available through November 7th.

The #MTS Fare/Service survey only had two primary options - less service for the same fare, or the same service with higher fares. There was no option for higher fares AND more service. I’d favor that option while also maintaining fare reductions for certain groups. #Transit has to get better.

How long until federal workers have to start paying the employer’s portion of their health insurance premium in addition to not getting paid until the shutdown ends if it does end?

Narrow, disconnected, door-zone bike lanes aren't good enough.
lauragmitchell.com
If you don’t frequently see families with kids traveling to destinations by bike, your bike network isn’t safe enough (&/or your zoning forces sprawl & car dependency).
3 people who appear to be two parents and a child wait for a light on their bikes. They’re riding on Bryant - a sidewalk level protected bikeway

Metro Bus Lane Enforcement heat maps show pretty much wherever there are bus lanes/stops and camera enforcement, there are lots of tickets. So many drivers illegally getting in the way of buses.
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
There was greater risk in driving there. Did they consider that brave too?

Good for that San Diego homeowner. Make them follow the law.

Border Patrol “attempted to arrest a plumber working inside a Logan Heights home but left empty-handed after the homeowner refused them entry.

The homeowner told agents she would not allow them inside because the warrant they presented did not include her address and lacked a judge's signature.”
Federal immigration operations target San Diego neighborhoods, sparking community resistance
Federal immigration agents conducted operations in Logan Heights and Southeast San Diego on Friday, with community members capturing footage of the enforcement actions.

#SanDiego has closed already limited public restrooms as planned. This restroom across from the organ pavilion in Balboa Park was heavily used.
Closed restroom in Balboa Park, the one across from the organ pavilion. The restroom signs have been removed as well. That restroom got a lot of use.

I'm not what would apply on University between Florida and the 805. Westbound the bus lane is continuous but only exists eastbound east of Utah. Does it have to exist in both directions for the zoning changes to apply?

"Another late amendment eliminated rapid bus lines, unless they have a dedicated line and service every 15 minutes..."

That would presumably eliminate most bus routes except for the portions of the 215 with dedicated bus lanes.

San Diego is 16th in density among cities in Canada and the US, 10th in the US.
thisisbenphelps.bsky.social
I don't care about the Canada vs US angle but if you look at the cities and their rankings there's something we're missing here
reluctantaxe.bsky.social
A Redditor made a graph of the percent of population of US and Canada metro areas over 1 million that live in a given density. When they ordered them by average density the lowest ranked Canadian metro area, Edmonton, was ranked 14th between Miami and Washington. 6 of the top 15 were Canadian metros

Why should any federal worker that's working but not getting paid on time continue to show up to work?
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
Service every 20 Minutes that’s 10 min late is service that's every 30 min. Barf.
MTS route 11 in San Diego running 10 min late.
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
Did MTS stop running the 1 and 11 through Hillcrest after 6 PM? Their “service” is garbage.

I’m keeping receipts on those in the best position to resist that have instead capitulated. They’ve totally misread the room.
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
That’s just totally normal. They’ll know by which employees start calling in sick. It should be much easier now to get a note from a doctor if needed.

Okay quick thread of the sort of stuff you'll get if you pay a modest monthly or yearly amount to read Gravity Is Gone:

Today's newsletter, about the shutdown and RIFs and how employees are so in the dark that their bosses want them to email UP the chain if they get fired.
Federal Employees Have Been Asked to Tell Their Bosses if They Get Fired
Multiple people at multiple agencies said their bosses have told them to email up the chain if they hear about RIFs, because, per one source, "they probably won't be told if people are fired."

Add in the 5 weeks from July 25th-Sept 1st and that's nine weeks of paid time off in three months.
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
That's still happening in some agencies. I don't thing anyone's ever read them except the person sending them. DOGE was really good at creating waste, fraud, and abuse.

This is one of the lowest cost ways San Diego could make itself better.

A growing body of research shows that 20mph is making our roads safer, reducing the number of people killed & seriously injured, while have little impact on journey times & no increase in pollution etc.

But still the naysayers will kick off … see predicable comments below!

MTS has decided to punt on better service for at least a few more years which means other transportation options will remain better, especially on weekends and evenings.

The head of Vancouver’s transit agency can sum its ridership recovery in one word: Frequency.

“Running the bus every 30 minutes isn’t going to cut it if you want to grow ridership.“

Many Vancouver 🚌 run every 5min or less, and the SkyTrain runs every 3-4min, via @davidzipper.bsky.social
The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery
The Canadian city’s transit agency, TransLink, bounced back from Covid even as other North American systems have struggled. Its leader explains why riders returned.

I agree with CityNerd that San Diego would be a top city to immediately make an urban paradise because of the climate. But what US cities are closest absent climate?
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
That’s seriously stupid. TSP should be the bare minimum for LRT and anything that wants to be BRT or BRT adjacent. Signal pre-emption is even better.
gregmartinsd.bsky.social
That was outstanding. Thanks to all that made it happen!
