It's a shame that Weinstein's stench is all over the film, because like other "dead teenager" films it almost has something cogent to say about the closed off futures of the early Gen X-ers. Almost. It also has some decent performances from the young actors. Still not enough to buoy it up, imo.

Knowing that, it's hard not see how nearly every relationship is creepy and / or abusive. Plus the story itself is very derivative of earlier slashers, especially Friday the 13th. It's generous to give it a rating of: ✂️✂️.5/✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️

Spooky Season `25, Night 14. I re-watched The Burning (1981) on Blu-ray, and while Tom Savini's SFX work is as gnarly as ever, the film suffers tremendously from its association with Harvey Weinstein, who has a producer / story credit on it. It launched his career and his predatory behavior in film.
