btw, I've been using Affinity Photo and DaVinci Resolve as Photoshop and Premier replacements. Affinity was one $41 purchase, and DaVinci is free with a optional $300 one time purchase for a few more features for enthusiasts. I've been using free Resolve and Affinity for years and both are great.

sadly on a tech crusade this week. im trying to do everything all at once. ive cancelled adobe. i'm trying out tidal. i'm installing linux on my W10 laptop. im getting into coolify. it's all happening. i'm only regretting one of those decisions. unfortunately the one decision is cancelling adobe.

Between the ICE ads and the AI generated updates to Spotify, I finally just got all of my playlists and liked songs moved off there. I got everything moved to YouTube Music (which I've had for years through Premium) and Apple Music (which I have through family but never used).

Fanatical are giving away Golden Light this week, one of the most viscerally unpleasant (in a good way) games I've ever played. A nightmare FPS horror-comedy roguelite where EVERYTHING can be an enemy, including the walls, floor, doors and even your own weapons.

I don't know if this is a good idea or not, never even been to GDC but it seems most are more annoyed that this big initiative is coming right after a year where having a vital networking event in the US right now is just not viable for most non Americans and queer folk rn. Seems tone deaf.

I skimmed this doc about the changes a while back, it just seems like they're doing a move similar to E3 when it sold tix to the general public. Seems they're making it more of a gaming convention than a business one, and opening access. From the talk about it, idk who wanted a vibe change like this

As someone that has seen way too many pitch decks in 17+ years, that GDC rebrand is absolutely unhinged and feels like genAI copy-written. Here's my favorites:

"At GDC, we believe in miracles.” Like it's a faith healing tent and not a $2,500 pass to stand in line for shit coffee.

I've actually used YT Music for songs that aren't on Spotify (mixtape stuff, etc.) and I hadn't really been having that problem. Main issue there is ther music recommendation algo is super basic from my experience
