Cover of a book in peach and apricot tones. In large font displays the title: IF WE KNEW HOW TO WE WOULD by Emma Barnes

Huh. Maybe I just never hear that. Also I’ve probably just gotten used to tuning it out. I got a lot of shit for my 90s music taste in the 90s. I don’t even like One of Us. I prefer like Dracula Moon and Right Hand Man etc.

Do you see her not mentioned positively??? I am probably out of the loop. I love Relish and have for a long time. And totally agree about Man in The Long Black Coat. Top three or maybe even top two songs on that album!

I said what I said

By introducing a lie into parliament to be deliberated & treated as truth, the govt undermined it's own legitimacy and invited disorder from people for whom the truth of the Treaty and its history is not simply a thought-experiment or a point-scoring exercise

"Respect should go both ways" says Seymour

The principle of comity goes both ways. If Parliament is going to get up to scheduling fuckery like this, the biggest news dump in NZ political history, other constitutional organs should let the facts be known

This rabbit hole has made me realise a PJ Harvey song I love is a Bob Dylan cover. I only seem to like Bob Dylan when women cover him. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKQL...

Your yearly reminder that I got renewed as a wedding celebrant for another 12 months. I specialise in small, bespoke, queer weddings in general but I just enjoy helping people have a great time publicly professing their love.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

Similar to my post about "liberation means even for that annoying guy you hate" - weird art includes art you personally don't get, don't like, wouldn't spend money on, find unsettling. Games you wouldn't play. Books you wouldn't read. Decommercialise your preconceptions of what art deserves to exist

Everyone saying "make weird art!" you better fucking mean it. There better not be an unspoken "but not too weird" tacked on at the end.

I am so sorry you have it. My recollection of my mother having it was total and utter misery and pain.

This Tumblr user summarizes something I've been feeling/doing lately. Against everything going on, it somehow feels helpful.
User homoquartz writes: as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now."
Small talk isn't to get to know a person. It's just a greeting to affirm you're buddies in the universe. I am motivated by wanting the other person to know I am friendly, so I have gotten pretty decent at small tall when I used to hate it.

Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.)

Please donate to them whenever you can. Even a little bit helps.

We live in a Māori nation. Our Parliament should reflect that more. The haka from the public gallery is an appropriate response to a maiden speech. Suspended Parliament only reminds Māori that they are not welcome to be authentically themselves there. #nzpol

Watch: Haka breaks out after Te Pāti Māori MP Oriini Kaipara's maiden speech, Parliament suspended
Speaker Gerry Brownlee intends to investigate whether anyone knew the haka would take place after Te Pāti Māori MP Oriini Kaipara's maiden speech.
