Similarly, a question we often get at our monthly community first aid/CPR sessions in the village, is what you do if you’re on your own and choking.
Some suggest self-adm abdominal thrusts using the back of a chair. Any other ideas?

I don’t believe they do - that was my thought too - but if something isn’t in resus council guidelines it is difficult for care providers to introduce de novo

I couldn’t possibly make it then.
So I have to call on a Tuesday to request one for next week.
I’m currently 27th in the queue.

I’m a doctor, and even I can barely navigate this overburdened system.

In 1916 the BMJ published an article about the work done by James Shearer, an American physician working in the British Army as a sergeant (because he had no British qualification). He had described a
"delineator" which was better than x rays for portraying gunshot wounds. This caused a sensation and a lot of interest — but on investigation the work was found to have been invented. The BMJ published a retraction, but Shearer was tried by court martial and sentenced to death by firing squad.
